Sebastian Stefaniszin (born July 22, 1987 in Berlin ) is a former Austrian - German ice hockey goalkeeper who was most recently under contract with the Dresdner Eislöwen in the DEL2 .

Career

Born in Berlin, he began his ice hockey career with the local Eisbären Berlin , where he went through all of the youth teams. At the age of seventeen Stefaniszin played for the first time for the Eisbären Juniors Berlin in the Oberliga Nord-Ost . In addition, the goalie was used three times in the 2004/05 season as a back-up for the DEL team of the polar bears and celebrated the runner -up with the DNL team. Stefaniszin was appointed to a junior national team of the German Ice Hockey Federation for the first time at the age of 16 and played a game at the U18 World Cup in 2005 .

On December 1, 2005, the left catcher played his first DEL game for the Hamburg Freezers . The polar bears had loaned him to the Alster because the Hamburg team had to deal with serious injuries, especially in the goalkeeper position. Of the four games for the Freezers, Stefaniszin won two. Later the goalkeeper was allowed to play three times for the polar bears in the DEL . At the U20 World Cup in 2007 , the goalkeeper was on the ice in five of six games.

At that time Stefaniszin was still completing an apprenticeship as a wholesale and foreign trade merchant. Nevertheless, he decided for the 2007/08 season to move to the Iserlohn Roosters , where he was used as a substitute behind the Canadian goalkeeper Norm Maracle . In addition, he received a license for the mosquitoes Essen in the 2nd Bundesliga to collect match practice. At the same time, Stefaniszin was selected in the fourth round of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft in 98th position by the then reigning Stanley Cup winner Anaheim Ducks . After his first season in the Sauerland , the goalkeeper extended his contract until 2011. In the 2008/09 season , Stefanszin replaced the actual number one maracle as a regular goalie after his performance did not meet expectations. The next year he formed a German goalkeeper duo with Danny aus den Birken , in which both players fought for the position of first goalie. At the beginning of the season, the Berliner stayed in the Anaheim Ducks rookie camp, so that von der Birken played the first five games. Then the two goalkeepers played alternately. Coach Ulrich Liebsch often gave preference to Birken, Stefaniszin only played seven games in the first half of the season. In addition, he was given a license for the Landshut Cannibals .

In June 2011 he received a contract for the 2011/12 season with the Vienna Capitals from the Austrian ice hockey league , in which Stefaniszin subsequently acted as the second goalkeeper. He also received some assignments with the club's second team in the national ice hockey league .

At the end of April 2012, he switched to the EC Graz 99ers within the EBEL , before returning to the DEL to the Kölner Haien in June 2014 .

Between 2015 and 2017 he was under contract in the German league, first one season with Duisburger Füchsen , then one season with Selber Wölfen, for which he played 44 games in the 2016/17 season. In May 2017 he was signed by the Dresdner Eislöwen from the DEL2 . At the Eislöwen, he was Marco Eisenhut's back-up until the end of the 2018/19 season before ending his career to become a firefighter.
