Stallehr is a municipality in the Austrian state of Vorarlberg . Both in terms of the number of inhabitants and the area of the municipality, Stallehr is one of the smallest municipalities in Vorarlberg : with its 1.64 km² municipality, it is the second smallest municipality in the state and the smallest municipality in the Bludenz district , with 275 inhabitants (as of January 1st 2020) the fourth smallest municipality in Vorarlberg and also the smallest municipality in the political district.

The community, which is geographically at the exit of the Klostertal to the Walgau , borders directly on the settlement area of the Bings settlement belonging to the district capital Bludenz and belongs historically and culturally (if not geographically) to the Montafon .

geography

Stallehr is located in the westernmost state of Austria, Vorarlberg, in the Bludenz district at an altitude of 600 meters. It is located at the exit of the Klostertal at the northeastern foot of the Davennakopf, which is the westernmost tip of the Verwall . Due to its steep northern flanks, the municipal area is considerably shaded in winter. Neighboring communities are Bludenz and Lorüns . Geographically, the municipality of Stallehr does not belong to the Montafon , as it is not in the valley of the Ill , but in the valley of the Alfenz and thus in the Klostertal. Historically, however, there are numerous points of contact with the municipalities of the Montafon, such as the fact that the municipality belongs to the Montafon state .

79.0% of the area is forested. There are no other cadastral communities in Stallehr.

history

The first settlement was probably already in Roman , perhaps even in pre-Roman times from Bludenz as the capital of the Walgau.

Between 1531 and 1612 the place was repeatedly ravaged by the plague . In 1640 the church in Stallehr was consecrated.

The Habsburgs ruled the places in Vorarlberg alternately from Tyrol and Upper Austria (Freiburg im Breisgau). From 1805 to 1814 the area came under Bavarian rule, then back to Austria.

Stallehr has been part of the Montafon since the middle of the 16th century . Stallehr has belonged to the Austrian state of Vorarlberg since it was founded in 1861.

In 1939 Stallehr was incorporated into Bludenz, which lasted until December 8, 1946, when the stable teachers decided to separate from Bludenz by an overwhelming majority. At the beginning of 1947, Stallehr was declared an independent municipality.

Stallehr was part of the French zone of occupation in Austria from 1945 to 1955.

Surname

The name "Stallehr" is derived from the Latin "stabularia" - meaning stables. Since 1802 the place has continued the name unchanged.

For leisure activities, a small-field sports field, a bike path, hiking trails and, in winter, a cross-country ski run invite you.
