The Way You Make Me Feel was composed and recorded for Jackson's seventh studio album Bad in 1987 . The song was composed and co-produced by Michael Jackson, while Quincy Jones produced it.
On November 9, 1987, Epic Records released the title as the third single after I Just Can't Stop Loving You and Bad . Jackson planned a triple album of over sixty songs before he was persuaded by Quincy Jones to record just one CD. The Way You Make Me Feel and ten other songs were selected for it.
The piece has blues harmonies and a groovy rhythm. It was also cited as an example of older soul influences on bath .

The Way You Make Me Feel was played from the second section of the Bad World Tour in 1988. A shorter 3:23 minute version was also sung at the 1988 Grammy Awards . Other performances were seen on the tours and concerts in New York in 2001. At the concert in Madison Square Garden , Jackson sang in a duet with Britney Spears . The film This Is It also features a performance that was planned for the actual This Is It tour.

The video was produced by Michael Nesmith and directed by Joe Pytka . His dance partner was the model and singer Tatiana Thumbtzen . The video was released on October 31, 1987 and received, along with Bad, a nomination at the MTV Video Music Awards in 1988 for best choreography. Michael lost to his sister Janet with The Pleasure Principle with both videos .

The song was received mostly positively. At Allmusic it is counted among the four “Track Picks”, selected pieces from the Bad album. Stephen Thomas Erlewine wrote that of all the songs on the album, only The Way You Make Me Feel , the title track and I Just Can't Stop Loving You could keep up with the previous album .
Cover versions
The song has been covered a number of times, including by Shakaya in 2003 and the Jonas Brothers in 2010. In December 2009, John Legend and Stevie Wonder sang the song at the 25th anniversary of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Madison Square Garden. Whitney Houston sang the song on the 2010 tour for the album I Look to You .
