The song was written by Teddy Riley , Michael Jackson and Bernard Belle and produced by Riley and Jackson. It is based on the emerging contemporary R&B music genre and contains the hard drum computer beats typical of this style , which Jackson had already used on his previous album Bad . It reached number 3 on the US charts and landed at number 1 on Billboard's R&B singles charts. It also reached number 3 in the UK. It was also a top ten hit in nine countries. According to Riley, he wrote the song when Jackson was dating Debbie Rowe .
Music video
A nine-minute music video was made by John Singleton . It takes place in ancient Egypt . Eddie Murphy plays the pharaoh , Iman Abdulmajid plays his wife, with whom Jackson flirts in the video. The Pharcyde and Magic Johnson appeared in other roles . The video used an elaborate trick technique that dissolved the spinning Michael Jackson into grains of sand.
