history

Leave Me Alone was written by Michael Jackson himself in response to media reports and rumors that surfaced after the world hit of Thriller , such as Jackson sleeping under some sort of oxygen tent. Jackson's holding on to the chimpanzee Bubbles was also described as an alienation from reality.

The song was released as a bonus track on the CD versions of Bad and on the edition on music cassette from 2001. A short film was also made for the song. He also ironically deals with rumors that were circulating about Michael Jackson, such as his cosmetic operations. The film received the 1990 Grammy Awards for Best Short Form Music Video. Although the single was successful, the piece was never performed live.

Music video

The accompanying music video won a prize in the Best Special Effects in a Video category at the 1989 MTV Video Music Awards . The award went to Jim Blashfield .

reception

Stephen Thomas Erlewine from Allmusic highlighted the song as the best on the album and wrote: "why are all of his best songs paranoid anthems?" ("Why are all of his best songs paranoid hymns?") He also called the music video the best of the album.
