Vikash Dhorasoo (born October 10, 1973 in Harfleur , Département Seine-Maritime ) is a former French football player . His ancestors are of Indian-Mauritian descent.

Club career

Raised in Normandy , he played as a professional at Le Havre AC from 1993 . There the only 1.68 m tall, offensive midfielder drew attention to himself with his speed (also with the ball) and his precise passing game. Then Olympique Lyon brought him in 1998 , where he spent a total of five successful years: he won two championship titles and twice the league cup. However, he fell out in the 2000/01 season with coach Jacques Santini and also with some of his teammates (namely Grégory Coupet ), so that OL loaned him to the Girondins Bordeaux for a year (2001/02) , where Dhorasoo was again league cup winner and then returned to Lyon . Under coach Paul Le Guen , he finally became the undisputed regular player who has since performed in a more defensive midfield role.

Because of this, AC Milan signed him in 2004 ; Vikash Dhorasoo didn't feel particularly comfortable there, however, and was only sitting on the bench in the European Cup final and was therefore happy that Paris Saint-Germain offered him a contract in 2005. In his first season after the Italy interlude, he won another national title with the Coupe de France in 2006, and scored the decisive goal in the final.

In October 2006, his contract was terminated without notice due to differences between him and the coach. After nine months of looking for a club, he moved to AS Livorno in the summer of 2007 . At the end of October 2007, the club broke the contract prematurely because Dhorasoo had refused to play in the youth team, where he should improve his fitness. So Dhorasoo left AS Livorno without ever having played a game for them.

In December 2007 Dhorasoo was about to sign a contract with the French second division Grenoble Foot 38 , but finally announced his career end.

The national player

Vikash Dhorasoo, who had already run through the youth national teams and even became world champion in 1995 with the French military selection, has played 18 international matches for the French national team since March 1999 and scored one goal (as of October 3, 2006) . The fact that he did not make it to more stakes was due to the fact that the role of playmaker in the Équipe tricolore was awarded to Zinédine Zidane for a long time . Dhorasoo was part of the French squad for the World Cup in Germany , but only played 16 minutes there. During the World Cup he made the video documentary Substitute about being a reservist with Fred Poulet . The publication of the recordings caused him trouble with some national team-mates, as they were not informed beforehand.

Life off the field

Vikash Dhorasoo, who had started studying economics before his professional career, is regarded by journalists as a “football intellectual”, who is therefore a frequent guest in editorial offices, television and radio studios. In cooperation with his first professional club, le HAC , he has created a “football camp” for 8-14 year olds in Gonfreville-l'Orcher ; In addition, he financially supports an institution that takes care of children from problematic social backgrounds.

Dhorasoo is married to Emilie; they have two daughters, Rose and Sara. His ancestors immigrated to Mauritius from the southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh . The Hindu belongs to the Telugu community .
