Division 1 1994/95

The Division 1 1995/96 was the 58th season of the highest French football league. The season began on July 19, 1995 with the opening match between SC Bastia and Paris Saint-Germain (2-2) and ended on May 18, 1996.

As a climber came EA Guingamp and FC Gueugnon from the Ligue 2 this. Second division champion Olympique Marseille was not granted promotion due to financial problems, so that Saint-Étienne remained in Division 1, relegated to last year. AJ Auxerre ended the season as champions and became the successor to FC Nantes Atlantique . Auxerre qualified for the UEFA Champions League . AS Monaco , FC Metz , RC Lens and HSC Montpellier qualified for the UEFA Cup . At the UEFA Intertoto Cup the following season, took Nantes Stade Rennes , Racing Strasbourg in part and Guingamp. Through the Coupe de France , Paris Saint-Germain secured participation in the European Cup Winners' Cup of the following year. Gueugnon, AS Saint-Étienne and FC Martigues had to relegate to Ligue 2 .
