The museum holds a permanent collection of contemporary art from Belgian and international artists, an arthouse cinema and an important library of books on contemporary art.
The architect responsible for the creation of the museum from an old grain storage space (1987) was Michel Grandsard who also designed the extension of the museum (1997).
The director of the museum since 1992 is Bart de Baere.

Androlepis is a genus of epiphytes in the botanical family Bromeliaceae, subfamily Bromelioideae, native to Central America and southern Mexico.[1] The genus name is from the Greek “andros” (man) and “lepis” (scale).
