Wooly monkeys (Lagothrix lagothricha) real name Woolly Monkey

Wooly Monkeys live mostly in Brazil in the Amazon rainforest, they live up in the canopy. Wooly monkeys can be brown, gray or black in color. They live in groups from 4-35 animals in each. There is a hierachy with an alpha male. When they meet another trop they roar at them but they don't roar like a lion. Females reach sexaul maturity at 11 years, and males at 5.5 years. They normally give give birth in the dry season May to September. Researches have observed a male: female birth ration of 1:1.7. The gestation period is 7-8.5 months. When they give birth there is normally one but there have been twins observed, the female who gives birth exhibits no outward sign of stress. There are usually six interbirths averaging 33.8 months (they range from 26-39 months.) When born the infant wieghs about four pounds, and are born with light fur.. The infant will cling onto the mothers belly, like many different monkeys, apes and lemurs.

Diet

There diet consits of 50% leaves and 50% fruit and flowers. Wooly monkeys also eat pollen, seeds, bark, bamboo, and ferns, they also eat nectar and other small monkeys like marmosets and tamarins, when food is short.

Predators

Sadly humans are the most deadly predators to wooly monkey, they chop down the wooly monkeys habitat for timber, they also hunt them for meat, fur, medicine and to keep them as pets. But Jaguars and snakes also kill them.
