Articles for creation

Welcome from Redwolf24

Welcome!

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. We as a community are glad to have you and thank you for creating a user account! Here are a few good links for newcomers:

Yes some of the links appear a bit boring at first, but they are VERY helpful if you ever take the time to read them.

Remember to place any articles you create into a category so we don't get orphans.

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! By the way, please be sure to sign your name on Talk and vote pages using four tildes (~~~~) to produce your name and the current date, or three tildes (~~~) for just your name. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome.

Redwolf24 The current date and time is 3 June 2024 T 18:05 UTC.

P.S. I like messages :-P

Thanks for the greetings. I've been trying to get the knack of the site, but have been busy working on my prelims for my doctorate to do too much. I try to get what I can get in first, and try to get back on making it "pretty", as it were, later. Thanks for the links.

Order of the amaranth

I have now deleted the Order of the amaranth duplicate page, which I found by accident. In future, please use {{db|You'r reason for deletion}} to request a quick deletion of a page. You should read Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion at some point for more details. Have fun with Wikipedia! jni 12:27, 20 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I'm still learning the mechanics of Wikipedia, so thanks for the tip.

Uploaded images

Hi. You know I very much appreciate all your work here in the Wikipedia. I just want to request that you spend a little bit of time brightening some of the images you are uploading here. Several images that you have uploaded appear too dark, and many visitors, especially those with visual impairments, will have trouble making them out. This is just a friendly request. Cheers! Stevie is the man! TalkWork 17:07, 31 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I plant to retake the Indiana Reformatory picture, as it was a tad dark. I'm taking the picture from Baird's 1909 book using a 5.2 megapixel digital camera, while in my room. Not sure how much brighter I can get it.--Bedford 17:13, 31 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry. I meant that the images could be brightened in post-production using Photoshop or equivalent software. Hope that helps. Stevie is the man! TalkWork 17:47, 31 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
But I don't have Photoshop. All I have is MS Paint.--Bedford 18:17, 31 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Here's an open-source equivalent: The GIMP -- it's pretty good software. Stevie is the man! TalkWork 18:28, 31 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Interesting article and good start. I list the murder for DYK at Template_talk:Did_you_know#September_2, so we'll see if it makes it. It'd help if you have a reference for it. If Scouting is one of your major wiki interests, please consider joining the Scouting Project. Rlevse 11:48, 3 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I was screwed out of attaining Eagle, having to settle with Life rank, so I am still bitter about that even through it's been 18 years, so I don't know if I want to join the Scout WikiProject. However, I did camp at Tunnel Mill for three years, and attended Cub Scout Day Camp before that, so I knew of its importance and all it had to offer.--Bedford 12:18, 3 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There's got to be story to that one. It's too bad that occurred. Thanks for contributing the article.Rlevse 17:01, 3 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yep, there is a story, and it is too long to go into here. Still, I am going to try to get access to the camp to take pictures and find out more history. SOmeday I want this article to be a featured one.--Bedford 17:25, 3 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject Indiana template

Hi Bedford,
Nice work on the Indiana project! I was thinking, when you add the template to an article's talk page, how about using the form,
{{WikiProject Indiana|class=|importance=}} ? That way, there will be a little less typing when it's time to enter the ratings. Rfrisbietalk 17:19, 3 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I altered my Templates text file, so for now on I get the current version in. I'll doublecheck the Clark County article and add them to WikiIndiana. I haven't been doign it since they are also under the Wiki-Louisville Project.--Bedford 17:25, 3 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Updated DYK query On 5 September, 2006, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Tunnel Mill Scout Reservation, which you created. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the "Did you know?" talk page.

Kentuckiana Guide

Yeah, that guide is great. It helped me develop a fuller List of attractions and events in Louisville and discover some additional subjects that deserve articles. Perhaps, if you have some time, check out the list article and add other notable things that might be missing. Stevie is the man! TalkWork 01:37, 11 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I plan to, but my main focus is to go up to Charlestown State Park and take pictures insie the park, the Backbone, and of Fourteen Mile Creek. I might also try to find out if I can fill out the new entries I made for the Registered Historic Places around Charlestown.--Bedford 06:38, 11 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds cool. Out of curiosity, I visited the park a couple weeks ago, but couldn't figure out how to get to the backbone, as the bridge across the creek no longer exists. Is there a different entrance to the area that provides access? Stevie is the man! TalkWork 18:05, 11 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
If there isn't, then when I can get access to Tunnel Mill, I'll take picture of the Backbone then.--Bedford 19:57, 11 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

¿Guerra de la Agresión Norteña?

Hi, Bedford. Thanks for providing the source for "War of Northern Aggression" as a name for the Mexican-American War. I'm inclined to leave it in the article, but have a concern: The page you saw is the same as the one I saw translated into Spanish. Seems like there's only one mention of the usage on the Internet -- and it cautions that the term is most often applied to the "American Civil War."

If you can remember anything else about the documentary you saw, or find any other source for this, it would be muy bien. Take care. -- Alarob 03:56, 29 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I just email the professor who taught the class; hopefully he can tell me the name of the documentary.--Bedford 05:44, 29 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject Louisville is sprouting its wings for 2007! We have a new Assessment Department and a much more refined project template. We have nearly 1,000 articles catalogued for our project. And we still have a lot of work to do. We have 500+ articles left to assess for quality, and all our articles, as always, need tender loving care. Please consider dropping by the project and seeing what you might be able to do to move Louisville-related articles forward. Cheers, and Happy New Year! Stevie is the man! Images query - Botcon

I am just making a light request which I hope isn't too hard. The next time you go to Botcon, you wouldn't mind taking photos of Simon Furman, Don Figueroa and Chris Ryall to benefit Wikipedia with freely licensed images, or are you not allowed to take photos at the Question panel? Jeffersonville Category

user:Jahnx -- The reason for the Jeffersonville category is because the actual Jeff Township does include Clarksville, IN and it just an easier way of including things listed within the actual city rather than just the town ship. Such as many areas considered to be Jeffersonville are only in the Township like Oak Park. however those places are in the works of being annexed into the actual city. Cities in the township of Jeffersonville include Cementville, Speed, Utica, parts of Clarksville, and stand alone subdivisions in Clark County such as Oak Park, Capital Hills, Fields of Lasscransage. Granted some of these places are in the work of Annex into Jeffersonville, they curently aren't and are only apart of the Township. April 20, 2007.

NRHP infoboxes

I see you've been creating a good share of articles on places listed on the National Register of Historic Places. You might be interested in an infobox generator I put together, which you can find at http://www2.elkman.net/nrhp/infobox.php. I have a copy of the National Register database loaded on my web server, so you can use the infobox generator to create an infobox in Wiki markup. I also have a script that will query properties within a city at http://www2.elkman.net/nrhp/querybycity.php, and one that will query properties within a county at http://www2.elkman.net/nrhp/querybycounty.php. Using these, you should be able to put infoboxes on NRHP articles without too much effort. Happy editing! --Elkman (Elkspeak) 21:27, 7 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Districts

I took your advice and did some major merging work on Sycamore Historic District (though not into the main article as it would have likely become quite difficult to naviagate, check Houses in Sycamore Historic District, Commercial buildings in Sycamore Historic District and Churches in Sycamore Historic District I am currently reworking the main article in my user space at User:IvoShandor/Sycamore Historic District work page. I would say, however, that if a property is significant enough in a district it could well merit its own article, and most definitely merits its own article if it is actually listed on the National Register by itself, as the nomination forms are likely to contain not only useful info but also notes and references which could be obtained to further expand the articles. Take for example Oregon Commercial Historic District (which I haven't worked on any merging yet but may do some soon), two of its contributing properties are listed individually on the National Register, Ogle County Courthouse and Oregon Public Library, the first is a GA and the second easily could be with a bit more work on my part, so I do think you could find information. I wrote a significant article on the DeKalb County Courthouse (Illinois) which is a contributing property in the Sycamore Historic District, it is also GA, and, I think, a good example of a primary contributing member of a historic district that deserves its own article. Some properties in districts are much more significant than others, of course.

Sorry to be so long winded just wanted to make sure I covered everything I was thinking. Anyway thanks for the pushing me on this, I needed the impetus to do the work (which I had long put off). IvoShandor 08:15, 16 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • No problem. If a house has enough history on its own, it should be its own article. Heck, I made the Lusk Home and Mill Site separate from Turkey Run State Park, and have absolutely no intention of condensing the Culbertson Mansion State Historic Site and the Grisamore House back into their respective Historic District articles. It's just that a stub that doesn't mention anything of note and is simply entitled "100 Main Street" needs to be avoided; there's quite a few 100 Main Streets in the United States. :) --Bedford 14:49, 16 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah I hear you. And I think the articles serve the reader much better combined as they now are.IvoShandor 12:07, 17 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

8664.org

I have added a "{{prod}}" template to the article 8664.org, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. --Rrburke(talk) 17:57, 16 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Reagan Revisions

Hi. Can you please explain how you can revert so many edits without any explanation or talk, but if I try to go ahead and place those helpful and completely NPOV edits back, I'll get accused of an "edit war"? None of the edits I made changed anything substantial (except remove inappropriate POV), but did make an inappropriately long article a bit shorter. If you think there is something wrong with the edits I made, please discuss them on the Reagan article Talk page, instead of unilaterally deciding that just because you don't like something you can simply revert it. I'd like to be able to discuss this here and/or at the Talk page, instead of requesting assistance from others to resolve it. Thanks Info999 00:38, 20 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It was obvious you were throwing a hissy fit, deleting things just to delete things, so no further explanation of my edits were needed.--Bedford 01:07, 20 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Funny. Of all the self-important people I've seen try to work out their personal stuff here on wiki, you take the cake. I only made factual changes that were necessary to remove conservative POV - you know, the kind of POV that appears to inform your edits. You read the edit summary, and you also seem not to be able to stand one of your heros being held to the scrutiny of fact and history. And you should know that wiki policy forbids the intentional undoing of another person's edits just for spite, which you not only did but just admitted to doing. Thanks for helping me make the case. Info999 01:37, 20 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You may want to look up the word "hypocrisy". You're the one deleting content to fit your views instead of reality.--Bedford 01:47, 20 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It's pretty clear that if you had even one example of my supposedly biased/non-factual edits to back up your bogus claim, you would have used it. The Reagan article is full of items contradicted by demonstrable facts, and is written in the most fawning and subjective way possible. I edited three or four sentences to make them factually correct, non-biased either way; you and your cohort get upset whenever facts that contradict your fantasy of Reagan are introduced into the article, or whenever the article is worded to be objective and fair. This isn't about politics, and it isn't about a power struggle. Shame should be, but is obviously not, present. Too bad. Info999 03:44, 20 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm taking pictures for Origins and relate darticles.Let me know what needs to be taken.--76.231.107.110 22:22, 5 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Somebody recently created this article, and it appears this is the life saving station that came before the Andrew Broaddus, but it's hard for me to be sure. I figured I would let you know about it, as you know better than most what to do with topics like this. Thanks! Stevie is the man! TalkWork 16:17, 1 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for letting me know. That should be a start. The new article isn't a bad idea, but a lot of it belonged in the Broaddus article.--Bedford 04:08, 2 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

National Historic Landmark list

Hi. You added the cleanup-restructure tag to List of National Historic Landmarks by state, but didn't specify the problems that you see on the talk page. The reason I'm concerned is because I've already been doing some cleanup and restructuring of the list, one state at a time. Did you add the tag because of the old, messy, and incomplete structure of the list? Or is there something I could be doing in my work to better conform with Wikipedia's style standards?

(The states I've already cleaned up are DC, HI, OR, TN, and UT. I'm also working on IN, ME, and SD in a sandbox area on my user page.)

Thanks! -Ipoellet 12:57, 9 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I did it because the organization of the landmarks were not consistant, as some states just have an unorganized list, while others are divied by city, while others are in boxes. If you are cleaning it up, it's appreciated, but I still think the tag is needed, as it might encourage someone to help.--Bedford 15:35, 9 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That's cool. I understand what your point is now, and I agree. Thanks. Ipoellet 04:38, 10 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Page move

Please don't perform a "cut and paste" move. The right way to move an article is by using the "move this page" link, which preserves the edit history. I've fixed Lexington Cemetery. ·:· Will Beback ·:· 08:41, 27 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

More like butcher it by removing all the cleanup I did of the article.--Bedford 11:12, 27 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That was my mistake, I reverted to a previous version in the course of fixing the move. Thanks for your improvements to the article. ·:· Will Beback ·:· 17:39, 27 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright problem: Indiana Register of Historic Places

<SNIP>

If you would like to begin working on a new version of the article you may do so at Talk:Indiana Register of Historic Places/Temp. Leave a note at Talk:Indiana Register of Historic Places saying you have done so and an administrator will move the new article into place once the issue is resolved. Thank you, and please feel welcome to continue contributing to Wikipedia. Happy editing! The Evil Spartan 17:51, 5 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Why should I feel welcomed after this? Anyway, since this was just a list, I removed anything that could reasonably be seen as a copyvio, and just have a pure list, even if it still needs some cleanup. Thank you for raping me of my lunch break.--Bedford 19:16, 5 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your recent PRODs

Heya. When you tag an article with a prod, use {{subst:prod|reason}}. Otherwise, it doesn't turn out properly. See WP:PROD for more info. I already fixed the articles you tagged earlier. --UsaSatsui 21:04, 12 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Info Boxes for Indiana Covered Bridges

Thanks for updating the info boxes. I also just tried the info box generator and it works good, that is cool. Just an FYI after trying to generate a couple of other info boxes the coordinates on some bridges are not as accurate as my GPS coordinates. Just FYI.....
