The ITV Evening News is the early evening news programme on the British television network ITV. It is produced by ITN.
It is a thirty minute broadcast covering national (UK) and international news, beginning at 6.30pm each weekday. From Mondays to Thursdays, the programme is anchored by Mark Austin and Mary Nightingale. The broadcast is presented by various newsreaders on a Friday, and when Mark and Mary are not available.
When there is a major news story, one presenter will host the first ten or fifteen minutes of the programme from the scene of the story. The other presenter will remain in the studio and present the rest of the programme.
The ITV Evening News was introduced into the ITV Network's schedule in 1999, replacing the former ITN Early Evening News, which was a twenty minute round-up of news, that went out at 5.40pm weekdays.
It was launched with Sir Trevor McDonald as its main presenter. He left to present the revived, and short-lived News at Ten in 2001, and subsequently became main presenter on the News at 10.30.
The Evening News is currently the RTS news programme of the year.
