Azucena Berrutti (b. 1929), a famous lawyer and Uruguayan politician [1] , she is the National Defence Minister, designated by the uruguayan president Tabare Vazquez on March 1 in 2005.

Background and political alignment

She was graduated from law school at the age of 29 in 1958. Eight years before she started working in the Government of Montevideo, the capital city of Uruguay, in the administration area. As she was afiliated at Socialist Party of Uruguay, she was fired because of Uruguayan dictatorship, from 1973 to 1984.

When the dictatorship finally ends, in 1984, Berruti could come back to work in the Government of Montevideo but a little while later she finally retired from work. In the event she returned to work there when Tabaré Vázquez was elected to be Governor of Montevideo in 1990, she was in charge of the General Secretary of the Government.
