Recently the reputation of the university has reached the lowest ever. Plagiarizing in every assessment component and been terribly handled in almost all branches across the Arab world. There is no single evidence on applying disciplinary actions of any kind, not to mention that fact that the university bylaws overlooked plagiarism entirely. Even though the OUVS requested that the AOU take solid steps towards academic honesty and also using plagiarism detection software, but nothing done so far. |

Arab Open University (AOU, in Arabic الجامعة العربية المفتوحة) is a non-profit private university founded in 2002 in Kuwait, Jordan, and Lebanon. One year later it opened in Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and soon in Oman. The AOU is affiliated with the UK Open University (UKOU). Agreements with the UKOU cover three major areas: licensing of materials, consultancies, accreditation, and validation.
It was established as a private university for Arabic speaking citizens in these countries. It has the following faculties:
- Faculty of Business Studies
- Faculty of Language Studies (English language)
- Faculty of Information Technology & Computing
Arab Open University
AOU received its accreditation from Open University in December 2003. The AOU works to develop human resources in the Arab World needed for the job market and allowing exposure to and use of current technologies.
Teaching methods
As a partner with British Open University, AOU uses the same methods of teaching, and a variety of methods for distance learning, including written and audio materials, the internet, disc-based software and television programmes.
Materials are composed of in-house (UKOU) and external academic contributors, and from third-party materials. For most courses, students are supported by tutors ('associate lecturers') who can provide feedback and tutorials on their work via face-to-face, by telephone, and/or the internet.
