Ray Hsu

Ray Hsu is a Canadian poet, activist, and scholar.

Biography

Hsu grew up in Toronto, Ontario. Hsu received an Honours B.A. and an M.A. in English literature from the University of Toronto and is receiving his Ph.D. in English literary studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He is currently based in Vancouver, where he is a postdoctoral teaching fellow in creative writing at the University of British Columbia.

He has published poems in thirty-four journals and magazines including The Walrus, New American Writing, and Fence. His work has appeared in such anthologies as Breathing Fire 2: Canada's New Poets and The Echoing Years: An Anthology of Poetry from Canada & Ireland. In 2007 he was featured on the Book Television and Bravo! documentary series Heart of a Poet.

His areas of research include twentieth century American literature, American studies, and cultural theory. He has presented at national and international conferences on his work developing collaborative projects between U.S. prisons and universities.
