Estebanía

Estebania is a small town about a 10-minute drive from the city of Azua in the Dominican Republic. It is a lively town, growing economically due to the support of emigrants, usually located in New York City — particularly Washington Heights, the Bronx, or Queens. Like all other Dominican towns, baseball is a huge pastime here, and many boys will be found at the town's field playing, whether by themselves or with a team.

As for the locals of the town, life is relatively simple. The men go off to farm in the daytime, returning around noon for "siesta" — lunch and a nap. The women are almost strictly housewives, although the women who are not as well-off can be found working elsewhere, either selling fresh produce or as maids in the homes of others.

A large Haitian population exists in the town, one which remains separate from the native Dominicans, and is largely discriminated against.
