Ron Smith (Canadian author)

Ron Smith is a Canadian poet, author and playwright, former academic and the founder of Oolichan Books in Lantzville, British Columbia.

His poetry has been translated and published in Italy. He taught English and creative writing at Malaspina University-College for 28 years. Smith holds degrees from the University of British Columbia and the University of Leeds. He was the Fulbright Chair in Creative Writing at Arizona State University. Smith lives on Vancouver Island with his wife, Pat Smith, also a writer.[1]

In 1974 he founded the publishing company Oolichan Books in and from 1988 to 1991 he was the fiction editor for Douglas & McIntyre. He has been called "instrumental" in helping to start the first aboriginal publishing house, Theytus Books, in 1981.[2]

He is the author of a suite of poems, Seasonal, a long poem, A Buddha Named Baudelaire, two collections of poetry and a collection of fiction, What Men Know About Women. He lives with his wife, Patricia Smith, in Lantzville on Vancouver Island. [2]
