Dalk galbi or dak galbi is a popular South Korean dish generally made by stir-frying marinated chicken legs in a gochujang (chili pepper paste) based sauce, and sliced cabbage, sweet potato, scallions, onions together on a hot plate. It is a local specialty food of the city of Chuncheon, Gangwon Province, where the dak galbi is originated and also is famous for its military, and education. For its origin, the dish is also called Chuncheon dalk galbi.[1]

It is said that dalk galbi appeared after the late 1960s to supply a cheap anju (food to eat while drinking) in small taverns, the outskirts of the city to replace for rather expensive gui (Korean grilled dishes) dishes cooked over charcoal. The dish has spread to the main districts of Chuncheon, as soldiers who serve their military service there and are out for their vacations or break enjoy eating it. It is also a popular to university students who are on a low budget because dalk galbi is not only delicious, but also cheap, and abundant. On the other hand, one of the reasons why dalk galibi has been developed there is that livestock industry has been thriving in Chuncheon. Due to the cheap price compared with its taste and amount, so it was nick-named as "commoners' galbi" or "university students' galbi" in 1970s.[1]
