The Doosan Encyclopedia is a multi-volume Korean language reference work published by the South Korean publisher Doosan Dong-A .

The lexicon is based on the Dong-A color encyclopedia ( 동아 원색 세계 대백과 사전 ), a 30-volume encyclopedia that was first published in 1982 by Dong-A Verlag ( 동아 출판사 ). The publishing house was acquired in February 1985 by Doosan Corporation ( 주식회사 두산 ), a subsidiary of the Doosan group.

Digital edition

EnCyber

A digital edition of the Doosan Encyclopedia first appeared on CD-ROM in 2000, called EnCyber . The trunk word is made up of Encyclopedia and Cyber . The Doosan Group stated that through this brand it wants to become a center of living knowledge. Since 2003, EnCyber ​​has offered the articles freely for reading by search engine users of the web portal Naver , which embeds the articles directly on its own portal. Naver owes its top position in the South Korean search engine market to this cooperation. It is believed that when Naver's exclusive contract was signed in 2003, royalties were set in the order of several billion won .

In April 2006, community elements were added to the company's website , which allow users to upload digital and digitized images . In terms of content, the articles will continue to be editorially created and maintained. In 2009, EnCyber was the largest online encyclopedia in South Korea and the largest image host .

Doopedia

On November 1, 2010, the digital edition was renamed Doopedia ( proper spelling in minuscule ), a suitcase word from the company name Doosan and the English word Encyclopedia . On November 7, 2013, there were 463,953 articles in Doopedia . For comparison, the Korean-language Wikipedia contained 252,830 articles on that day.
