Dawn Porter (born 23 January 1979, Guernsey, Channel Islands) is a British television presenter and writer.

Biography

Dawn Porter grew up in Guernsey. Her mother died three days before her seventh birthday, and she was then raised by her aunt. She studied Acting at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts, before graduating in 2001 and becoming a reporter/presenter for BBC Radio Humberside and then BBC Radio 5 Live.

Porter made her TV debut in the Channel 4 comedy show Balls of Steel, which saw her testing the morals of British men. More recently, she attempted to slim down to a size zero by using drastic dieting regimes for the BBC documentary Super Slim Me, highlighting the media and fashion world's obsession with thin models and actresses. Porter also presents the product-testing section of How to Look Good Naked on Channel 4.

She has a publishing deal with Virgin Books for her novel Diaries of an Internet Lover - an in-depth journal of her experiences of meeting people on the Internet, which has been published in German, Dutch and Portuguese.

In 2008 she presented a BBC Three series of four documentary films exploring attitudes to nudity, lesbianism, dating and pregnancy & childbirth.[1] [2]

Dawn also appeared in Seriously Dirty Dancing, in which she paid tribute to her favourite film, for Five in their highest rated documentary of 2008.

She moved from London to Los Angeles in January 2008 to film a new documentary series for Channel 4.[3] The first confirmed titles are:

  • Dawn Patrol, a first-hand experience of life as a private in the United States Marine Corps

  • Red Dawn, Dawn investigates the growing number of teenage gangs and their effects on the surrounding communities
  • Dawn of the Deaf, Dawn steps into the shoes of a deaf person and discovers how their disability is detrimental to their role in society
  • Dawn on Devilgate drive,Dawn lives with Suzie Quattro for two weeks
  • Watership Dawn, Dawn goes on a ship. on some water.
  • Dawn Go Breaking My Heart. Dawn investigates cardiac diseases

Dawn next appeared on screen in a four-part series for Channel 4[4] which saw her travel the world looking at the most extreme ways women find love, and live, with men.
