The Sims: Unleashed is the fifth expansion pack developed by Maxis and released by EA for the strategy/simulation computer game The Sims.

New features

  • Unleashed allows players the ability to adopt pets - specifically, dogs, cats, fish, turtles and birds - into families.
  • Cats and dogs are treated as members of a Sim family, with their own family icons and status bars. However, they cannot be directly controlled by the player, and must be looked after and trained by a Sim. When they've learned enough tricks, a pet can be entered in a pet show.
  • The neighbourhood in Unleashed is now 40 lots large (from 10 in the original game), and includes several new families.
  • An expanded neighbourhood screen, displaying both residential and commercial lots. The game allows stores to be built in the neighbourhood.
  • Sims can now grow their own garden.
  • New career paths, such as Animal Care, Culinary, Circus, Fashion and Education.
  • New midnight visitors, such as El Bandito (a raccoon) and Henri LeStanc (a skunk) .

The theme of game, with its new lots and music, is considered Cajun or Zydeco. One could compare it to New Orleans' French Quarter with voodoo shops and jazz musicians appearing on commercial lots.

Trivia

Because of the popularity of Unleashed, Maxis is currently developing an equivalent expansion pack for The Sims 2, known currently as Pets.
