St. Mary High School is a four-year Roman Catholic high school located in Rutherford, New Jersey, United States.
The school was established in September 1929, with instruction provided through the Sisters of Saint Dominic of Caldwell, New Jersey. The school's building was dedicated and opened on November 5, 1932.[2] It is located in the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Newark.
As of the 2005-06 school year, the school had an enrollment of 347 students and 26.4 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student-teacher ratio of 13.1.[1]
Athletics
The St. Mary High School Gaels compete in the Bergen County Scholastic League, whose three conferences consist of public and parochial high schools covering Bergen County and Hudson County in northern New Jersey. The league operates under the jurisdiction of the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA).
The wrestling team was recognized as the winner of the 2007 team wrestling tournament for the Non-Public, North B state sectional championship.[3] The wrestling team moved on to win the NJSIAA 2007 Team Wrestling Tournament Group B State Championship, topping Bishop George Ahr High School, 53-19. This was the Gaels 4th consecutive State Championship,beating St.Augustine, Holy Cross, and St. Joseph's (Hammonton) in the previous three finals. The Gaels had also won six consecutive Sectional titles, three District 16 titles, three BCSL National Titles. The Gaels Wrestling teams established the school's most prolific athletic dynasty.[4]
