The Primera División de Fútbol Profesional Apertura 2008 is one of the two football tournaments held each year. It began on August 2, 2008 and will run until December 3, 2008. Atlético Balboa and Juventud Independiente are the promoted teams in the league while San Salvador F.C. and Once Municipal were relegated to the Segunda División de Fútbol Salvadoreño. The top four teams at the end of the regular season qualify for the Apertura 2008 Playoffs. The winner of the Apertura 2008 Playoffs qualifies automatically to the group stages of the 2009-10 CONCACAF Champions League.
