Founded in 1947 as a school for girls, it was originally named St. Ferdinand High School. In 1956, the school admitted boys for the first time, and changed its name to Bishop Alemany High School. The school's present namesake is [[Joseph Sadoc Alemany]], the first [[archbishop]] of San Francisco.

Alemany used to be located on the north side of Rinaldi Ave, just west of Sepulveda Blvd, but the [[Northridge Earthquake]] in 1994 forced the school to move across the street into the old seminary buildings at the historic San Fernando Mission. The 1971 [[Sylmar Earthquake]] did considerable damage to Alemany's campus, as well.

In 2006, Bishop Alemany High School changed their mascot from the Bishop Alemany Indians to the Alemany Warriors.

The rivalary between Chaminade College Preparatory Eagles and Bishop Alemany High School Warriors in the sports of softball and football, are usually played the last game of the season, and is one of the strongest in the San Fernando Mission League.

In 2007-2008, the varsity football team finished 8-4 and advanced to the Western Division Quarter Finals after going 4-6 in 2006. This was Alemany's first league championship since 1999. In a last minute 2 point conversion over league rivals, the Chaminade Eagles, the Warriors claimed victory.

As the 2008-2009 season has begun on Thursday September 11, 2008 the Alemany Warriors samshed both JV, 35-0, and Varsity,53-6. So far things are looking bright for Alemany, even as there freshman team has beaten Kennedys' frosh sopht team on Friday September 12, 2008,34-20.

Bishop Alemany High School is a Roman Catholic secondary school located in the Mission Hills neighboorhood of Los Angeles, California, located in the San Fernando Valley. It is located within the San Fernando Pastoral Region of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. Alemany is known for a strong academic program, along with active sports and performing arts programs, and boasts 96% of its students are accepted into colleges and universities. The school is fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges through May 2011.[1]

History

Founded in 1947 as a school for girls, it was originally named St. Ferdinand High School. In 1956, the school admitted boys for the first time, and changed its name to Bishop Alemany High School. The school's present namesake is Joseph Sadoc Alemany, the first archbishop of San Francisco.
