Hi. This really isn't relevant, and please don't hate me for it, but I was one of the guys who set up this WikiProject. I dunno what compelled me to come back and see but I just wanted to say I'm glad its still going after Seancdaug got the ball rolling back in mid-2005. :) I guess I'm just wondering if anyone remembers me, and if any of the original crew are still around. Currently, [[Rise of the Zilart]], [[Chains of Promathia]] et al redirect to [[Final Fantasy XI]]. I do not think that these expansions are covered adequately as part of the parent article. They may not be enough content for each expansion to warrant a separate article, but how about a [[List of Final Fantasy XI expansions]]? You could include a link on each expansion to its soundtrack at [[Music of Final Fantasy XI]], and also drill further down into the expansions' contents and reception. ::Whoa, lets hold our horses for a moment. the Reason the expansion were merged is that they had very little information on their own. I think you should make a draft of this article first, to make sure it is viable on its own, and also to prevent the recreation of a large permanent stub article. ==Merge to [[Common elements of Final Fantasy]]==
Deckiller had this idea a long time ago, and I think it is a good one; take [[Common elements of Final Fantasy]], and put [[Final Fantasy magic]], [[Minigames of Final Fantasy]], [[Monsters of Final Fantasy]], [[Recurring character names of Final Fantasy]], and [[Final Fantasy character classes]] into it and rename it Gameplay of Final Fantasy. None of these article are strong on their own, and perhaps one overarching article would be able to get GA or FA status. True, the character classes article is GA, but I'm not sure it should be anyway. Thoughts? [[User:Judgesurreal777|Judgesurreal777]] ([[User talk:Judgesurreal777|talk]]) 20:29, 21 June 2008 (UTC)
:Wouldn't this article become extremely long. I'm not against the idea (in fact, I'm all for it if it's possible), but I'm concerned about the article's layout. In what order would all the topics be placed, and what content should be added from the various articles? [[User:The Prince of Darkness|The Prince]] ([[User talk:The Prince of Darkness|talk]]) 21:37, 21 June 2008 (UTC)
::Well, it would be merged in that a few sentences, or maybe an additional paragraph from each article would be merged into the Common elements articles, but other than that, as most of the stuff in the articles we would like to merge is non notable, it would not be included, so the article wouldn't balloon in that way. [[User:Judgesurreal777|Judgesurreal777]] ([[User talk:Judgesurreal777|talk]]) 21:57, 21 June 2008 (UTC)
:::Well, perhaps we don't even need to rename the Common elements article, since as it is currently constituted, it would cover all of the topic in the articles listed, whereas a Gameplay of article would be more restrictive. [[User:Judgesurreal777|Judgesurreal777]] 16:48, 24 June 2008 (UTC)

Go ahead. No need to delay the process. There are no objections and I doubt that anyone can find any good arguments to prevent the mergers taking place. [[User:The Prince of Darkness|The Prince]] ([[User talk:The Prince of Darkness|talk]]) 21:14, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
:::I have an even better (I think) idea. Why don't we just put individual mini-games in their respective main game articles? I've already started with Final Fantasy IX, and it would not be that hard to complete.--[[User:BigBossIX|BigBossIX]] ([[User talk:BigBossIX|talk]]) 19:16, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

::::::I'd prefer "common elements of Final Fantasy" over "gameplay of Final Fantasy", as things such as recurring names, recurring songs, recurring class / job aesthetics and recurring plot elements aren't really part of "gameplay". -- [[User:Gordon Ecker|Gordon Ecker]] ([[User talk:Gordon Ecker|talk]]) 06:17, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
:::::::True, so even though the Gameplay draft Deck made way back when is a great model for us to use, the Common Elements article is probably the one to merge all this stuff to. [[User:Judgesurreal777|Judgesurreal777]] ([[User talk:Judgesurreal777|talk]]) 06:30, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
(Deleted my comments above) Actually, a google search and a re-jogged memory gives me a much more pessimistic view; clearly I had been out of the loop for a while. If good sources could have been found, then they would have already been found (two years, after all). Unfortunately, this changes my view drastically; if few good sources for real-world content can be found, I may even propose merging the ''common elements'' article into the main Final Fantasy article, perhaps ''along with'' all the gameplay articles. That might be a little unwieldy and difficult to work into a featured article. We can start by listing a bunch of reliable sources for this content. — '''[[User:Deckiller|Deckill]][[User talk:Deckiller|er]]''' 13:41, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

== All Sounds of SaGa seems misplaced ==

Currently the redirects point it to [[SaGa#Music]], but there's a few gaping problems with that, notably the fact it covers only the three Legend games and none of the others, making it a representative for less than half the games mentioned there. Could it be possibly split off into something like [[SaGa series soundtracks]] or such? (There were ones done for SaGa 2, Romancing SaGa 2, Romancing SaGa 3, Saga Frontier, Saga Frontier, and Unlimited SaGa that I know of). Reviews should be locatable for the other games.

Route B would be to suggest giving it its own article again by itself using the reviews I did manage to find as support, but sadly there's not much to go on besides reviews (no development info turned up regarding the tracks).

Any ideas?--[[User:Kung Fu Man|Kung Fu Man]] ([[User talk:Kung Fu Man|talk]]) 03:53, 25 June 2008 (UTC)

:I noticed that too. Unfortunately, unlike the ''Final Fantasy'' series, there weren't numerous albums produced for each game or numerous compilation albums for the ''SaGa'' series. From what I've seen, each game pretty much has one album (except the original trio, which is on that particular disc), and some of them are mentioned in the individual articles (''SaGa Frontier'', ''Unlimited Saga'', etc.). Perhaps ''All Sounds of SaGa'' could go in only one game's article (''[[The Final Fantasy Legend]]'' perhaps) and the other two game articles could have a link to it, <nowiki>[[The Final Fantasy Legend#Music|See also: All Sounds of Saga]]</nowiki>, or something similar. ~ [[User:Hibana|Hibana]] 04:49, 25 June 2008 (UTC)
::Actually, each of the 'Romancing' games had an arrange disc, SFII had a piano disc, and Minstrel Song had an OST. Plus there were a few tracks from SFII on a piano compilation CD by Hamauzu (with different performance and arrangements than the other disc). So there's quite a good bit of musical releases from the series -- 11 plus the Hamauzu disc, if I count right. :::::Although it's not formalized in any guideline (yet?), I believe tracklists and album infoboxes should be moved to the music article when it exists, since they pertain to the actual album rather than the game in itself. [[User:Kariteh|Kariteh]] ([[User talk:Kariteh|talk]]) 21:09, 29 June 2008 (UTC)

Well I got the liner notes for All About SaGa, and they seem to go into great detail...could use some help fully translating them (which I need to for the guy that tossed them to me x.X). Also got at least two reviews of the soundtrack, and it was partially re-released with SaGa 2 as just the songs from that game. So I should have enough for a stand alone article (I have nada on the other soundtracks at the moment). Kickers are...what are the requirements for at least a GA soundtrack article? And also, anyone fluent in Japanese willing to help with the liner notes so I can give the fellow a full translation? I should be able to get the rest of the content from it if I return the initial favor (and it would help to make the article count towards one of our GAs to boot if it can get there).
*[http://img355.imageshack.us/img355/6244/sagalinerqn9.jpg Said notes for anyone interested.]

:Reqs for a GA soundtrack article- copy straight up from the FF music articles or the chrono music article. You'll need a section on the album(s), with the date(s) released, the composer/producer/artist, the tracklist, etc; a reception section with multiple people talking about it ([[RPGFan]] is always a good spot to start), and, if at all possible, a development section. This can be tricky, though having the liner notes can help if they said anything useful in it. If the other sections are meaty enough, sometimes you can let the devel section slide. Hit me up if you need any help. --[[User:PresN|PresN]] ([[User talk:PresN|talk]]) 16:20, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

:[[Image:The Thumbs-up position.jpg|30px]] Wow, that's impressive! I didn't actually realize the topic was that close to completion. Only 3 GAs and 2 FAs/FLs remaining to be done. [[User:Kariteh|Kariteh]] ([[User talk:Kariteh|talk]]) 15:42, 10 July 2008 (UTC)
::Incredible, amazing job PresN! I have been keeping up with your great work, and think that this topic Kariteh posted would be perfect minus the compilation albums (for now). I say that because there are still a few articles not in this topic, which I will post here for perusal;

* [[Music of the Chocobo series]]
* [[Voices of the Lifestream]] {{GAstar}}
* [[The Black Mages]]
* [[The Black Mages discography]]
* [[Dear Friends -Music from Final Fantasy-]]
* [[Project Majestic Mix: A Tribute to Nobuo Uematsu]]
* [[Tour de Japon]]
* [[Distant Worlds: Music from Final Fantasy]]

My thought is that the Chocobo music should replace the compilation albums for the initial FFMusic featured topic, and then include the compilation album along with all the these articles (many of which will probably be merged), so it will only be a handful. So once we do that supplimentary addition, we will have every FF music article in the Featured Topic. What an astounding achievement. That's my thought. PresN? Others? [[User:Judgesurreal777|Judgesurreal777]] ([[User talk:Judgesurreal777|talk]]) 16:58, 10 July 2008 (UTC)

So, here's my thoughts on the matter.

[[Dear Friends -Music from Final Fantasy-]],[[Tour de Japon]],[[Distant Worlds: Music from Final Fantasy]] -> Final Fantasy Concerts or somesuch. Possibly merge Black mages and discography together (not sure). Which leaves us with

* [[Music of the Chocobo series]] {{start-icon}}
* [[Voices of the Lifestream]] {{GAstar}}
* [[The Black Mages]] {{start-icon}}
* [[Project Majestic Mix: A Tribute to Nobuo Uematsu]] {{start-icon}}
* [[Final Fantasy Concerts]] {{N}}

Now, that's 15+5=20 articles, so 4 of them need to be FA/L, of which one is. So, 7 to GA, plus 3 to FA. A bit to go, but not too bad. Or, my other thought, was a halfway point- Soundtracks of Final Fantasy. This would be

{{Featured topic box

Which would include albums of the numbered games, 1-12, plus the albums which combined music from those games, and would not include albums from spin-offs, including X-2, Tactics, and Chocobos. I think that that's a gap-less definition of a topic, and would be a good marker point on the way to getting the rest of the topic up. It would be 13 articles, so 2 F*'s to go, and 3 GA's. This also ties into a question that Kariteh raised on the WP:VG talk page, about how most of the "music of" articles are more discographies, and thus incorrectly named. ==Changes to the WP:1.0 assessment scheme==
{{resolved}}
As you [[Wikipedia:Wikipedia_Signpost/2008-06-23/Dispatches|may have heard]], we at the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial Team recently made some changes to the assessment scale, including the addition of a new level. The new description is available at [[Wikipedia:Version_1.0_Editorial_Team/Assessment|WP:ASSESS]].
*The '''new C-Class''' represents articles that are beyond the basic Start-Class, but which need additional references or cleanup to meet the standards for B-Class.
*The criteria for B-Class have been tightened up with the addition of [[Wikipedia:Version_1.0_Editorial_Team/Assessment/B-Class_criteria|a rubric]], and are now more in line with the stricter standards already used at some projects.
*A-Class article reviews will now need more than one person, as [[Wikipedia:Version_1.0_Editorial_Team/Assessment/A-Class_criteria|described here]].

Each WikiProject should already have a new C-Class category at [[:Category:C-Class_articles]]. If your project elects not to use the new level, you can simply delete your WikiProject's C-Class category and clarify any amendments on your project's assessment/discussion pages. [[Wikipedia:Version_1.0_Editorial_Team/Index|The bot]] is already finding and listing C-Class articles.

Please [[Wikipedia_talk:Version_1.0_Editorial_Team/Assessment#WikiProject_responses|leave a message]] with us if you have any queries regarding the introduction of the revised scheme. This scheme should allow the team to start producing offline selections for your project and the wider community within the next year. Thanks for using the Wikipedia 1.0 scheme! ::::It's placement will be a little strange either way; the second row is just the Compilation games and the first one has the original game and the article explaining the Compilation. Personally I think it could go either way; the Famicon version is pretty much the same as the original and therefore the characters and later installments are all connected to it, but it's more of a "other game". == Androgynous characters in Final Fantasy ==
{{resolved}}
FYI- [[Androgynous characters in Final Fantasy]] has been created by a [[Special:Contributions/Weirdo with a Beardo|new editor]]. The editor's edits look to be mostly in good faith, but still inexperienced. The interesting thing is the article is actually somewhat well sourced, but would probably serve better in a reception section of [[Common elements of Final Fantasy]] or in [[Common elements of Final Fantasy#Character design]]. Just a heads up as I think this editor might be a good contributor once they learn the ropes, so please keep [[WP:BITE]] in mind. ([[User:Guyinblack25|Guyinblack25]] [[User talk:Guyinblack25|talk]] 15:17, 15 July 2008 (UTC))

:I personally don't know if the person meant to do it in good faith; rather, they may have just been making fun of the fact that many characters, especially after their CGI transformation, look effeminate. The use of the word 'emo' makes it more clear; it's a slang word stereotype that ss actually just a type of music. It's well-sourced, but I just don't see the point. The editor, however, seems like he/she has potential. Once they learn the ropes, they'll probably be pretty good. Right now, we should focus on what to do with the new article; if it isn't tossed, I think reception is the best place for it because, like it or not, how feminine they are is more in the eye of the beholder in this case. Prior to 1960, law enforcement in Suffolk County was the responsibility of local towns and villages as well as the [[Suffolk County, New York Sheriff's Office|Suffolk County Sheriff's Office]] and the [[New York State Police]]. From the 17th century until well into the 20th century, many of these jurisdictions employed only part-time [[constable]]s, who were usually appointed by local communities and paid to enforce court orders. Additional fees were paid for making arrests, serving warrants and transporting prisoners. Few of these constables had any formal law enforcement training, hours were often long and pay was low.

== Gaps in the FF music topic ==
The [[New York State Police]] arrived on [[Long Island]] in 1917, and many towns and villages began forming their own small police forces soon thereafter. Training remained inadequate, however, and none of these forces were equipped to handle serious incidents or major crimes. Communication and cooperation between forces remained spotty.

I think the following albums/singles are missing from the discography articles:
The demographic transformation of the county following [[World War II]], however, forced a change. The rapid suburbanization of those years brought with it a dramatic rise in traffic and crime that threatened to overwhelm the 33 separate law enforcement agencies then operating within Suffolk County. Voices demanding a unified county police force, similar to the one already operating in neighboring [[Nassau County Police Department|Nassau County]], grew louder.

==Resurrecting the Final Fantasy X/X-2 Topic==
Following the passage in 1958 of state legislation creating the [[county executive]] form of government, a referendum was held on the creation of a county police force. The five western towns — [[Babylon (town), New York|Babylon]], [[Huntington, New York|Huntington]], [[Islip, New York|Islip]], [[Smithtown, New York|Smithtown]] and [[Brookhaven, New York|Brookhaven]] — voted in favor. The five eastern towns — [[Riverhead (town), New York|Riverhead]], [[Southold, New York|Southold]], [[Shelter Island (town), New York|Shelter Island]], [[East Hampton (town), New York|East Hampton]], and [[Southampton (town), New York|Southampton]] — opted to retain their own police forces and do so to this day with the Suffolk County Police Department providing support and specialized services.
There are enough FA's and GA's to pass this back through the Featured Topic candidacy, but these four articles need to either be merged or brought up to GA status;
* [[Spira (Final Fantasy)]] - Merge into Final Fantasy X? Doesn't seem that notable
* [[Characters of Final Fantasy X and X-2]] - Get to GA
* [[Rikku]] - Merge to Characters article?
* [[Yuna (Final Fantasy)]] - Get to GA?

How does that sound for a plan? It would get our other featured topic back. Thoughts? Changes?[[User:Judgesurreal777|Judgesurreal777]] ([[User talk:Judgesurreal777|talk]]) 21:02, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
The towns that voted in favor thus agreed to turn over all their police functions to the new agency. In addition to normal uniformed patrol services, the new agency agreed to provide: a Detective Bureau, a Communications Bureau, an Identification Bureau, a Central Records Bureau, and a police academy for training new officers.

:If no concept/creation/reception notes cane be pulled up for Spira merging is the best option. The character list just needs more third party sources, references, and maybe some editing. Rikku should deffinately be merged and Yuna...Yuna is a pretty notable character. Her concept and creation section should, if possible, be expanded on and given more references. The appearance sections needs to be drastically minimized; I can help with this if anyone wants me to. The reception section should also be expanded, perhaps with merchandise, too. Seems like a good plan to me. [[User:WhiteArcticWolf|WhiteArcticWolf]] ([[User talk:WhiteArcticWolf|talk]]) 00:59, 18 July 2008 (UTC)
All incumbent town and village police officers serving in those areas that voted to join the police district became members of the new department without further examination or qualification. In addition, [[state trooper]]s serving on Long Island who so desired could request appointment to the new force. Criminal investigators in the district attorney's office were appointed the new detectives. I noticed in the [[List of Final Fantasy media]] there are a lot of Final Fantasy novels, but not one article. Today, the department has a strength of around 2,500 sworn officers, making it one of the largest police agencies in the country. In addition to officers, the department also employs 500 civilians, as well as nearly 400 school crossing guards. In 2006, the department announced it would be staffing its public information unit entirely with civilians, thus freeing more officers to return to patrol duty.

Is it okay for the [[Final Fantasy IV]] article to have a plot section based on the Final Fantasy IV DS version rather than the original SNES one? I believe it should be based on the original, while [[Final Fantasy IV (Nintendo DS)]] should have its own (reduced) plot summary highlighting the differences it has and its new events. The department is headed by a civilian [[Police commissioner|commissioner]], appointed by the county executive, and police headquarters are located in [[Yaphank, New York|Yaphank]]. The department has a total of seven precincts. Four of the five towns are served by their own precinct, with odd-numbered precincts covering the south shore towns and even-numbered ones covering the north shore. The exception is the town of [[Brookhaven, New York|Brookhaven]], whose sheer size (sprawling from [[Long Island Sound]] to the [[Atlantic Ocean]]) necessitated the establishment of two precincts, the 5th in [[Patchogue, New York|Patchogue]] and the 6th in [[Selden, New York|Selden]]. Recently, because of population growth in the eastern part of Brookhaven and deployment problems from the existing station houses caused by Long Island's perpetually traffic-choked roads and highways, a third precinct (the 7th) was established in [[Shirley, New York|Shirley]] in the late 1990s.

I think most people here already know, but [[WP:Featured topics]] has added on a new layer, [[WP:Good topics]]. GTopics is fundamentally the same as FTopics, except that there is no requirement for a minimum number/percent of FAs/FLs. As such, it is easier to attain- a string of GAs is enough. Currently, our only FT is Final Fantasy VIII, but Final Fantasy XII has now been nominated for GT. We are also only one GA (FF7) away from getting back our old FT, Final Fantasy Titles, and one GA (Music of FF) from getting a new GT, Music of Final Fantasy. If you see a topic that's close to being a GT, try working on it! Remember, all of the "game" articles except for 7 and all of the "discography" articles are at GA+, so that's a good start to any topic. --[[User:PresN|PresN]] ([[User talk:PresN|talk]]) 03:09, 11 September 2008 (UTC)
Recently, the Suffolk County Police and their interrogation methods have come under scrutiny due to the handling of the 1988 murder case of Seymour and Arlene Tankleff. Their only son, [[Martin Tankleff]], was convicted of the crime after police extracted a false confession using deception. While denying any intentional discrmination, the county signed a consent decree three years later committing itself to increased minority hiring.<ref>{{cite news | title=Working to Put a Shine on a Police Career | date=[[April 29]], [[2001]] | publisher=''The New York Times'' | url=http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?sec=health&res=990CE3D71439F93AA15757C0A9679C8B63}}</ref> The number of minority officers, however, has remained small. A cadet program aimed at smoothing the way onto the force for black and Hispanic young people was struck down in 1997 as unconstitutional reverse discrimination. On top of that, a well-publicized cheating scandal on the 1996 police exam further undermined confidence in the fairness of the hiring process.<ref>{{cite news | title=Mr. Levy's Minority Problem | date=[[April 3]], [[2005]] | publisher=''The New York Times'' | url=http://www.nytimes.com/2005/04/03/opinion/nyregionopinions/LI_Cops.html}}</ref> Controversy surrounding these issues has abated somewhat, but has not gone away entirely.<ref>{{cite news | title= Suffolk's High Stakes Police Test | date=[[March 21]], [[1999]] | publisher=''The New York Times'' | url=http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9904E5D91331F932A15750C0A96F958260}}</ref>

In a controversial move, Police Commissioner Richard Dormer in July 2006 announced that highway patrol and certain other units would undertake a pilot program whereby officers would record the race and/or ethnicity of drivers stopped for traffic violations. The purpose of the program, according to the commissioner, is to demonstrate that the department does not engage in so-called "[[racial profiling]]." The program has continued and is being expanded. While Dormer denies any racial profiling has taken place, he has refused to disclose the results.<ref>[http://www.newsday.com/news/local/longisland/ny-listop0411,0,4724539.story Suffolk police expand racial profiling program]''Newsday,'' April 11, 2008</ref>

Is there anyone on the Wikiproject that actually has a collection of the Jam mag ''Famitu''? I've looked over some of the FF articles and most of the attribution are to 3rd party sources. I was just wondering b/c the magazine is frequently used in important Japanese game review sections (i.e., Final Fantasy), but is conspicuously absent from [[WP:VG/M]]. --[[User:Hydrokinetics12|Hydrokinetics12]] ([[User talk:Hydrokinetics12|talk]]) 20:28, 19 September 2008 (UTC)

Okay, I think this article is shaping up nicely, and is, IMO, very close to GA status. Are there any last-minute comments before the article gets sent to GAN? My primary concerns are: statements like FF7 being the best-selling FF title and the quote from GameFan are missing citations, the story section is still pretty long, and the prose may not be that great. The only problem is 1. I don't know where to locate such sources, 2. The story of FF7 is very complex, and cutting it even further may leave out essential details to understanding the plot, and 3. I'm terrible with prose, so someone else might have to take a look over. Thoughts? [[User:The Prince of Darkness|The Prince]] ([[User talk:The Prince of Darkness|talk]]) 22:31, 19 September 2008 (UTC)
:I wouldn't worry too much about the Story section; the game is three discs long, and even games like [[Final Fantasy V]] have a pretty big Story section. It may be hard to find a good source that says specifically FFVII is the best-selling of the FF games, though IGN may help. If not, it was for sure a best-selling game, and I believe there are sources that say that. As for the GameFan quote...Eh, best to look on [[WP:VG/M]] and such for owners of the specific magazine. The quote probably comes from the case of the Greatest Hits version of FFVII (it does say that on the back, though I'm not sure if you're able to reference game cases...) Good luck! ::Thanks for the comments. To be honest, I don't think these issues are too big to prevent the article from becoming a GA. I'll send it to GAN, and if they pop up, I'll address them accordingly. The section "Design and inspirations" contains information from those magazines, and the GAN reviewer has listed some issues about it that need to be addressed. As I don't own any of those magazines, I won't be able address them, but if anyone does: please say so, so that we can get this article to GA status. List of Final Fantasy XI expansions

Resolved

Currently, Rise of the Zilart, Chains of Promathia et al redirect to Final Fantasy XI. I do not think that these expansions are covered adequately as part of the parent article. They may not be enough content for each expansion to warrant a separate article, but how about a List of Final Fantasy XI expansions? You could include a link on each expansion to its soundtrack at Music of Final Fantasy XI, and also drill further down into the expansions' contents and reception. Enjoystory (talk) 22:48, 18 June 2008 (UTC)

I think it's a good idea. I never liked how they're set up now, but having never played FFXI, there wasn't much I could do about it. I'm not sure if it should be "List of FFXI Expansions" or just "FFXI Expansions", but your choice. --PresN (talk) 23:38, 18 June 2008 (UTC)
Whoa, lets hold our horses for a moment. the Reason the expansion were merged is that they had very little information on their own. I think you should make a draft of this article first, to make sure it is viable on its own, and also to prevent the recreation of a large permanent stub article. If it can sustain itself, great, but we should make sure. Judgesurreal777 (talk) 01:05, 19 June 2008 (UTC)

Goal: 50 Featured and good articles before the New Year

We are really close, with Nobuo just passing, and two Music of articles in the que, so that means we should pick seven articles to get to FA or GA by the new year. Suggestions? Judgesurreal777 (talk) 18:08, 20 June 2008 (UTC)

I'm planning on getting FF7 to at least GA status. I'll be working on it during the summer. The Prince (talk) 18:41, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
Bringing Final Fantasy III and Final Fantasy VII to GA status would help bring back the FF featured topic. Kariteh (talk) 19:33, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
If anyone knows of any references we can use to bulk up FFIII, post it here, that has been the biggest problem restoring it. Judgesurreal777 (talk) 19:34, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
Perhaps FFIII DS and FFIII should be merged. It wouldn't completely resolve the lack of sources issue, but it would be a good first step. Final Fantasy III (Nintendo DS) is GA despite having no Gameplay section at all. Kariteh (talk) 20:01, 20 June 2008 (UTC)

That's exactly what I've been thinking about. I think it's a great idea. The Prince (talk) 20:10, 20 June 2008 (UTC)

I totally agree, lets do it, it has been long since discussed and there has been no opposition. Judgesurreal777 (talk) 21:13, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
Any other ones to propose? I think I still want to work on My Life as a King, so that will probably be my contribution. So that makes for more to go...don't be shy! PresN, I'm sure you have four that you'll be working before the new year :) Judgesurreal777 (talk) 04:20, 21 June 2008 (UTC)
Haha, I will. I've been busy with work, but I've got the two that are stalled at GAN, the compilation albums that needs a bit of cleaning and to be sent to FLC, and then I'm on to Music o' FF1/2 and 7, and maybe discography of the Black mages. I'll do my bit! --PresN (talk) 17:43, 21 June 2008 (UTC)

With some guidance (and borrowing direction from FFIX's article), Final Fantasy VII (Famicom) is now a good article. I'm going to try and fix up the Final Fantasy Legend articles now.--Kung Fu Man (talk) 01:31, 23 June 2008 (UTC)

Music of the Final Fantasy Tactics series is now GA'd. --PresN (talk) 16:08, 24 June 2008 (UTC)

Here is a list of the articles that are currently being worked on in some form. Let's do it, we can get 50 GA's and FA's, which would be quite an achievement! Judgesurreal777 (talk) 16:36, 24 June 2008 (UTC)

I've merged FFIII DS. (It actually had a gameplay section, but a vandal deleted it and it went unnoticed.) Anyway, the FFIII article looks quite bigger all of a sudden, though it still needs some work. Kariteh (talk) 18:22, 24 June 2008 (UTC)
Since that was a GA, I added Tactics A2 to our list to work on :) Judgesurreal777 (talk) 19:04, 24 June 2008 (UTC)
Adding this list, since people should know about PresN's work. Judgesurreal777 (talk) 22:07, 1 July 2008 (UTC)
Gary King has nom'd FF3 for GA. --PresN (talk) 14:18, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
And it's back to GA status! And truth be told, it is a much much better article than it ever was before, it makes me dream of featuring it if we could just get original japanese reviews from the time, more reception, more development...Judgesurreal777 (talk) 04:39, 21 July 2008 (UTC)

Current Status: 11 FAs, 1 FL, 33 GAs = 45 total. 5 to go! --PresN (talk) 15:57, 21 July 2008 (UTC)

I added the discography of VII since the character classes article is going to probably be de-GA'd and merged into Common elements per our discussion here. Judgesurreal777 (talk) 02:02, 30 July 2008 (UTC)

2 more GAs, we're up to 47 FA/FL/GA's now! --PresN (talk) 00:35, 14 August 2008 (UTC)

+1, at 48. --PresN (talk) 04:05, 28 August 2008 (UTC)

Deckiller had this idea a long time ago, and I think it is a good one; take Common elements of Final Fantasy, and put Final Fantasy magic, Minigames of Final Fantasy, Monsters of Final Fantasy, Recurring character names of Final Fantasy, and Final Fantasy character classes into it and rename it Gameplay of Final Fantasy. None of these article are strong on their own, and perhaps one overarching article would be able to get GA or FA status. True, the character classes article is GA, but I'm not sure it should be anyway. Thoughts? Judgesurreal777 (talk) 20:29, 21 June 2008 (UTC)

Wouldn't this article become extremely long. I'm not against the idea (in fact, I'm all for it if it's possible), but I'm concerned about the article's layout. In what order would all the topics be placed, and what content should be added from the various articles? The Prince (talk) 21:37, 21 June 2008 (UTC)
Well, it would be merged in that a few sentences, or maybe an additional paragraph from each article would be merged into the Common elements articles, but other than that, as most of the stuff in the articles we would like to merge is non notable, it would not be included, so the article wouldn't balloon in that way. Judgesurreal777 (talk) 21:57, 21 June 2008 (UTC)
Well, perhaps we don't even need to rename the Common elements article, since as it is currently constituted, it would cover all of the topic in the articles listed, whereas a Gameplay of article would be more restrictive. Judgesurreal777 16:48, 24 June 2008 (UTC)
See also User:Deckiller/Gameplay of Final Fantasy. Kariteh (talk) 16:50, 24 June 2008 (UTC)
Any thoughts/objections, or can we do this long overdue merger? :) Judgesurreal777 (talk) 19:22, 26 June 2008 (UTC)

Go ahead. No need to delay the process. There are no objections and I doubt that anyone can find any good arguments to prevent the mergers taking place. The Prince (talk) 21:14, 26 June 2008 (UTC)

I have an even better (I think) idea. Why don't we just put individual mini-games in their respective main game articles? I've already started with Final Fantasy IX, and it would not be that hard to complete.--BigBossIX (talk) 19:16, 1 July 2008 (UTC)
I think that is a good idea. Judgesurreal777 (talk) 03:51, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, feel free to use that Gameplay of Final Fantasy as a base for a mega gameplay article. — Deckiller 17:39, 7 July 2008 (UTC)

Ok, I think we have a rough consensus to do the merge of these articles into the Common Elements articles... and I don't even know where to begin it will be such a big project :) HELP! Judgesurreal777 (talk) 03:51, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
I'd prefer "common elements of Final Fantasy" over "gameplay of Final Fantasy", as things such as recurring names, recurring songs, recurring class / job aesthetics and recurring plot elements aren't really part of "gameplay". -- Gordon Ecker (talk) 06:17, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
True, so even though the Gameplay draft Deck made way back when is a great model for us to use, the Common Elements article is probably the one to merge all this stuff to. Judgesurreal777 (talk) 06:30, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

(Deleted my comments above) Actually, a google search and a re-jogged memory gives me a much more pessimistic view; clearly I had been out of the loop for a while. If good sources could have been found, then they would have already been found (two years, after all). Unfortunately, this changes my view drastically; if few good sources for real-world content can be found, I may even propose merging the common elements article into the main Final Fantasy article, perhaps along with all the gameplay articles. That might be a little unwieldy and difficult to work into a featured article. We can start by listing a bunch of reliable sources for this content. — Deckiller 13:41, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

Compilation of available sources

Please add to this list. It's scraping the bottom of the barrel, but it might be material to work with. — Deckiller 13:51, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

All Sounds of SaGa seems misplaced

Currently the redirects point it to SaGa#Music, but there's a few gaping problems with that, notably the fact it covers only the three Legend games and none of the others, making it a representative for less than half the games mentioned there. Could it be possibly split off into something like SaGa series soundtracks or such? (There were ones done for SaGa 2, Romancing SaGa 2, Romancing SaGa 3, Saga Frontier, Saga Frontier, and Unlimited SaGa that I know of). Reviews should be locatable for the other games.

Route B would be to suggest giving it its own article again by itself using the reviews I did manage to find as support, but sadly there's not much to go on besides reviews (no development info turned up regarding the tracks).

Any ideas?--Kung Fu Man (talk) 03:53, 25 June 2008 (UTC)

I noticed that too. Unfortunately, unlike the Final Fantasy series, there weren't numerous albums produced for each game or numerous compilation albums for the SaGa series. From what I've seen, each game pretty much has one album (except the original trio, which is on that particular disc), and some of them are mentioned in the individual articles (SaGa Frontier, Unlimited Saga, etc.). Perhaps All Sounds of SaGa could go in only one game's article (The Final Fantasy Legend perhaps) and the other two game articles could have a link to it, [[The Final Fantasy Legend#Music|See also: All Sounds of Saga]], or something similar. ~ Hibana 04:49, 25 June 2008 (UTC)
Actually, each of the 'Romancing' games had an arrange disc, SFII had a piano disc, and Minstrel Song had an OST. Plus there were a few tracks from SFII on a piano compilation CD by Hamauzu (with different performance and arrangements than the other disc). So there's quite a good bit of musical releases from the series -- 11 plus the Hamauzu disc, if I count right. ♫ Melodia Chaconne ♫ (talk) 14:06, 25 June 2008 (UTC)
I think it's well enough to warrant a List of SaGa albums article. Kariteh (talk) 14:40, 25 June 2008 (UTC)
What should be done about the tracklists for games like SaGa Frontier? If we create this article, should the tracklists remain in the individual game articles, or should we move them? ~ Hibana 21:03, 29 June 2008 (UTC)
Although it's not formalized in any guideline (yet?), I believe tracklists and album infoboxes should be moved to the music article when it exists, since they pertain to the actual album rather than the game in itself. Kariteh (talk) 21:09, 29 June 2008 (UTC)

Reqs for a GA soundtrack article- copy straight up from the FF music articles or the chrono music article. You'll need a section on the album(s), with the date(s) released, the composer/producer/artist, the tracklist, etc; a reception section with multiple people talking about it (RPGFan is always a good spot to start), and, if at all possible, a development section. This can be tricky, though having the liner notes can help if they said anything useful in it. If the other sections are meaty enough, sometimes you can let the devel section slide. Hit me up if you need any help. --PresN (talk) 16:20, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

I've created a stub of Music of the SaGa series per other articles such Music of Kingdom Hearts. I've placed it under WikiProject Square Enix only. Please help expand this article using any resources you have (album liner notes, websites, etc.) ~ Hibana 04:09, 7 July 2008 (UTC)

List of Final Fantasy compilation albums has now been nominated for FLC. Please comment/criticize it! --PresN (talk) 21:43, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

A comment has been raised at FLC regarding tha lack of Japanese reviews of the albums. If anyone here could find any, I'd be most appreciative. --PresN (talk) 19:59, 1 July 2008 (UTC)
Very nice. Just needs some brushing up. — Deckiller 17:38, 7 July 2008 (UTC)

Featured Music Topic

Resolved

Current status of the future FT is as follows (before PresN->now)

--PresN (talk) 14:04, 10 July 2008 (UTC)

Wow, that's impressive! I didn't actually realize the topic was that close to completion. Only 3 GAs and 2 FAs/FLs remaining to be done. Kariteh (talk) 15:42, 10 July 2008 (UTC)
Incredible, amazing job PresN! I have been keeping up with your great work, and think that this topic Kariteh posted would be perfect minus the compilation albums (for now). I say that because there are still a few articles not in this topic, which I will post here for perusal;

PresN? Others? Judgesurreal777 (talk) 16:58, 10 July 2008 (UTC)

So, here's my thoughts on the matter.

Dear Friends -Music from Final Fantasy-,Tour de Japon,Distant Worlds: Music from Final Fantasy -> Final Fantasy Concerts or somesuch. Possibly merge Black mages and discography together (not sure). Which leaves us with

Now, that's 15+5=20 articles, so 4 of them need to be FA/L, of which one is. So, 7 to GA, plus 3 to FA. A bit to go, but not too bad. Or, my other thought, was a halfway point- Soundtracks of Final Fantasy. This would be

What are people's thoughts on all this? --PresN (talk) 18:13, 10 July 2008 (UTC)

Incidentally, if anyone could GAReview MoFF11, that'd be great, damn things been sitting there for over a month now. --PresN (talk) 20:45, 10 July 2008 (UTC)
Never mind, someone got to it. Guess there's a benefit to getting into the "5 oldest GANs" box. --PresN (talk) 18:16, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

Changes to the WP:1.0 assessment scheme

Resolved

As you may have heard, we at the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial Team recently made some changes to the assessment scale, including the addition of a new level. The new description is available at WP:ASSESS.

 • The new C-Class represents articles that are beyond the basic Start-Class, but which need additional references or cleanup to meet the standards for B-Class.
 • The criteria for B-Class have been tightened up with the addition of a rubric, and are now more in line with the stricter standards already used at some projects.
 • A-Class article reviews will now need more than one person, as described here.

Each WikiProject should already have a new C-Class category at Category:C-Class_articles. If your project elects not to use the new level, you can simply delete your WikiProject's C-Class category and clarify any amendments on your project's assessment/discussion pages. The bot is already finding and listing C-Class articles.

Please leave a message with us if you have any queries regarding the introduction of the revised scheme. This scheme should allow the team to start producing offline selections for your project and the wider community within the next year. Thanks for using the Wikipedia 1.0 scheme! FFVII Fam & the FFVII Template

Resolved

I would like to bring up the matter of adding the game to the template. I'd go ahead and be bold and just add it, but there was a heavy debate before with User:FightingStreet, and I want to make sure everyone here is fine with such a move before I make it.--Kung Fu Man (talk) 17:59, 10 July 2008 (UTC)

Don't see why not, I'm for it. --PresN (talk) 18:17, 10 July 2008 (UTC)
I was originally against it, but seeing as the article has been improved tremendously and even attained GA status, I'll say it's ok to add it. The Prince (talk) 21:20, 10 July 2008 (UTC)
Alright with that cleared, which row should it go on? The first as a game, or the second amongst the more side articles?--Kung Fu Man (talk) 00:16, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
It's placement will be a little strange either way; the second row is just the Compilation games and the first one has the original game and the article explaining the Compilation. Personally I think it could go either way; the Famicon version is pretty much the same as the original and therefore the characters and later installments are all connected to it, but it's more of a "other game". Someone could always make a new section for it, but it may mor may not look good. WhiteArcticWolf (talk) 00:29, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

Androgynous characters in Final Fantasy

Resolved

FYI- Androgynous characters in Final Fantasy has been created by a new editor. The editor's edits look to be mostly in good faith, but still inexperienced. The interesting thing is the article is actually somewhat well sourced, but would probably serve better in a reception section of Common elements of Final Fantasy or in Common elements of Final Fantasy#Character design. Just a heads up as I think this editor might be a good contributor once they learn the ropes, so please keep WP:BITE in mind. (Guyinblack25 talk 15:17, 15 July 2008 (UTC))

I personally don't know if the person meant to do it in good faith; rather, they may have just been making fun of the fact that many characters, especially after their CGI transformation, look effeminate. WhiteArcticWolf (talk) 15:34, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
In good faith? He rated the article as FA and top-importance... --Mika1h (talk) 15:41, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
I think the information in the article is better placed in the Development or Reception sections of each relevant articles. — Blue 16:29, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
Regarding the article rating and importance, I'm sure they are not aware of our assessment processes and simply rated it how they thought it should be. They also re-rated Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep FA, for I'm sure the same reason. It's not the first time something like this has happened because editors don't fully understand Wikipedia processes. This version of Kingdom Hearts was put up at FAC because someone thought a great game deserved to be FA. Wikipedia gets new, inexperienced editors all the time, and I'd rather work with them than fight against them at AfD. (Guyinblack25 talk 17:16, 15 July 2008 (UTC))
It should definitely be merged, it looks like synthesis to me, and if we really want to get into the whole discussion of the Japanese male aesthetic, that would fit as a section in the Final Fantasy series article perhaps or the common themes article, but I am not convinced it should be on its own. Judgesurreal777 (talk) 23:56, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
I support the merging. Although I wonder if it fits the notable and verifiable bill since it does include statements and receptions from reliable sources. Or is there a redundancy policy somewhere? — Blue 09:32, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
The topic is definitely notable, but I doubt the article will ever grow large enough to reach GA status. I think it should be merged into Common elements of Final Fantasy. Kariteh (talk) 10:31, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
We really should have a redundancy policy, someone start drafting that... Guy!! :) Judgesurreal777 (talk) 14:32, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
I merged it, it fits very nicely as a paragraph in character design. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Judgesurreal777 (talkcontribs) 15:31, July 17, 2008 (UTC)
FYI- Today the editor reverted the redirect. I don't think they understand the reason behind the merge. Someone may want to leave a note on their talk page or the article talk page explaining some of the applicable guidelines: WP:FICT#Elements of fiction, WP:AVOIDSPLIT, and to a lesser extent WP:UNDUEWEIGHT. (Guyinblack25 talk 15:07, 18 July 2008 (UTC))

May someone explain why I wasn't notified of this little discussion? I don't think plotting things behind people's back is very civil. Weirdo with a Beardo (talk) 15:09, 18 July 2008 (UTC)

Why would you be notified? You are a 3 day old user who appears to have made a start article that can't sustain itself. However, if you are here to stay, welcome to Wikipedia! Your article was good, but is not notable enough to be on it's own, but is notable in the context of the Common elements of Final Fantasy article to which it was merged. No content was lost, so there shouldn't be much controversy over merging it there. In fact, I would expand the section a little to discuss the Japanese male aesthetic and its reception by people in the US, Europe, and elsewhere. Judgesurreal777 (talk) 16:54, 18 July 2008 (UTC)
I think the article should have been given a merge tag when this discussion started. -- Gordon Ecker (talk) 02:04, 21 July 2008 (UTC)

Final Fantasy GA review

I've started a GA review of Final Fantasy (video game) due to multiple reference concerns. It was made GA in 2006, so it's probably a good idea to look it over again in any event. Pagrashtak 21:34, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

When one is done, review Final Fantasy II, which is actually weaker. When that is done, the topic will be very strong. Judgesurreal777 (talk) 20:33, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
Here are the references that are questionable, and I thought I would post them here so we can go through and see which ones would stand up to, say, FA standards; forgive my ignorance on some of them, but I just don't know, and I want to be sure:

Judgesurreal777 (talk) 01:35, 18 July 2008 (UTC)

I've marked with checkY the sites which I think are okay... We definitely need more input about this though. Kariteh (talk) 16:41, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
Hurray! Thanks Kariteh! Judgesurreal777 (talk) 23:54, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
Now the article needs reliable sources added and a bunch of copyediting, so if anyone is free... :) Judgesurreal777 (talk) 03:58, 14 August 2008 (UTC)

Final Fantasy X needs references?

Resolved

It is currently tagged, just thought I'd let people know, I'm not sure if it really needs them. If not, lets remove the tag. Judgesurreal777 (talk) 17:19, 16 July 2008 (UTC)

User:Kariteh said the "credits list needs references as the FFXIII article claims his first main FF as director is FFXIII". — Blue 17:47, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
It definitely doen't need more refs, as it currently has nearly 60 of them, which is plenty. When adding one {{fact}} tag, it's unnecessary to also add a {{refimprove}} tag to the entire article. If numerous fact tags had been spread across the the article, it would have been correctly placed, but in this context, it isn't. The Prince (talk) 08:42, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
I placed the refimprove tag because no one notices or cares about the small fact tags otherwise. Kariteh (talk) 09:52, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
The Final Fantasy X game credit roll says Toriyama is the event director. Clarified. — Blue 18:56, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
Thanks! Kariteh (talk) 20:09, 17 July 2008 (UTC)

Gaps in the FF music topic

I think the following albums/singles are missing from the discography articles:

Done, in the DoFF4 article, as a version of the ff4 ost. --PresN (talk) 16:01, 21 July 2008 (UTC)
Done, it's in the same section as the above, only it's called by the English translation "Theme of Love". --PresN (talk) 16:03, 21 July 2008 (UTC)

Also, should we create a Discography of the Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles series? It would include the 3 discs listed in the FFCC articles, and the soundtrack of FFCC:Ring of Fates. Kariteh (talk) 18:03, 17 July 2008 (UTC)

Yes, we should make a Discography of the Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles series article, it practically exists in the FFCC page as a subarticle. --PresN (talk) 19:55, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
I've created a stub for the FFCC discography. Kariteh (talk) 18:05, 18 July 2008 (UTC)
Nice, good job. By the way, where would those singles/promotional disks go? The List of compilations? List of Final Fantasy singles? Judgesurreal777 (talk) 02:39, 24 July 2008 (UTC)

Resurrecting the Final Fantasy X/X-2 Topic

There are enough FA's and GA's to pass this back through the Featured Topic candidacy, but these four articles need to either be merged or brought up to GA status;

How does that sound for a plan? It would get our other featured topic back. Thoughts? Changes?Judgesurreal777 (talk) 21:02, 17 July 2008 (UTC)

If no concept/creation/reception notes cane be pulled up for Spira merging is the best option. WhiteArcticWolf (talk) 00:59, 18 July 2008 (UTC)
I think we should still search for sources for Spira. World of Final Fantasy VIII is GA; it seems curious that an article on a more "developed" world like Spira couldn't reach the same class. Spira is culturally very influenced by the real world (especially Eastern Asia), unlike, say, Gaia the world of FFVII. Kariteh (talk) 17:34, 18 July 2008 (UTC)
Actually, that World article might as well not be a GA (and the main article/Characters of FFVIII need to be delisted as well), since you have an issue with the source because it's through a fansite. I'm done with rolling the stone up the endless hill; sorry guys. My efforts are better placed in other, more stable areas of the encyclopedia. — Deckiller 03:32, 19 July 2008 (UTC)
I looked over your FFVIII featured topic, and it looks really good, I think your underestimating the long lasting nature and quality of the work you did. Judgesurreal777 (talk) 00:55, 24 July 2008 (UTC)

Final Fantasy novels

Resolved

I noticed in the List of Final Fantasy media there are a lot of Final Fantasy novels, but not one article. As most if not all are japanese that makes sense, but perhaps we could start an article on the all the novels, with the impossible to foresee title of Final Fantasy novels. Thoughts? Judgesurreal777 (talk) 02:38, 24 July 2008 (UTC)

Wouldn't this be a simple split of the novels and manga section of List of FF media (apart from the manga)? Also it would be difficult to write a good intro since there is (apparently) no history, reviews or sales figures that we can mention. Kariteh (talk) 08:25, 24 July 2008 (UTC)
So.... we basically have no content to build one with? Good to know. Judgesurreal777 (talk) 22:41, 28 July 2008 (UTC)

Final Fantasy IV DS

Resolved

Is it okay for the Final Fantasy IV article to have a plot section based on the Final Fantasy IV DS version rather than the original SNES one? I believe it should be based on the original, while Final Fantasy IV (Nintendo DS) should have its own (reduced) plot summary highlighting the differences it has and its new events. Kariteh (talk) 08:45, 24 July 2008 (UTC)

I agree, it should be based on what the original version was like. Judgesurreal777 (talk) 20:04, 26 July 2008 (UTC)
I also do not at all like that the plot of FFIV has been expanded, and all the references to the original SNES release have been replaced with references from the newer games. I think that is inappropriate and should be undone. Judgesurreal777 (talk) 22:39, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
I'd be fine with it, if it wasn't for the fact that we have the DS game article separated out. If the game is in its own article, its plot should be too. --PresN (talk) 01:15, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
To note, not all SNES quotes are removed. Plus, I used DS and GBA quotes. The plot is expanded to cover the full story, though some elements introduced (Like Golbez realizing who Cecil when Tellah dies, or Golbez's full past) are not included. Fractyl (talk) 04:36, 29 July 2008 (UTC)

Japanese names

Is there any template more specific than {{Globalize/Eng}} which could be used to mark articles which are missing some Japanese names? -- Gordon Ecker (talk) 02:21, 26 July 2008 (UTC)

Resolved

Discography of Final Fantasy I and II is now nominated for GA, this time under the music section rather than the video game section. --PresN (talk) 20:18, 26 July 2008 (UTC)

 1. Discography of Final Fantasy VII is now nominated as well...maybe putting it under the Music section instead of video games was a mistake. --PresN (talk) 19:25, 7 August 2008 (UTC)

Adding article classification

Can someone add the C class and the Featured List class to our article classification list? Judgesurreal777 (talk) 20:32, 29 July 2008 (UTC)

Done! Kariteh (talk) 22:26, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
Awesome! Also, could we add template, redirect, and category to our classification? Sorry to be a bother, but then we will have no more unclassified pages. Judgesurreal777 (talk) 04:29, 30 July 2008 (UTC)
Never really wrapped my head around the redirect one. Is it needed? Usually when a page is a redirect either no template is put on the talk page or the talk page itself is redirected to the other article's talk page, as far as I've seen.--Kung Fu Man (talk) 04:50, 30 July 2008 (UTC)
It's used when you have a merge/redirect situation, where the now-redirected article had talk page discussion. Rather than throwing it out, you leave the talk page un-redirected, and put it under the redirect cat. Pages that were always redirects don't get cat'd. --PresN (talk) 13:27, 30 July 2008 (UTC)

After seeing this edit (which I agree with) I'm starting to wonder if this article ever has a chance of reaching GA status. I did a lot of research, but I could not find any development info about Sephiroth from a reliable source. What can we do about this? I know the character's reliable enough for its own article, but without a bigger concept and creation section, it's bound to never attain GA status. Any suggestions? The Prince (talk) 22:07, 29 July 2008 (UTC)

Perhaps we can look for translations of Ultimania guides, and reference the Japanese sources instead of the translations. Page numbers will probably be missing, but I think this is the kind of omission that doesn't prevent GA status (it would definitely prevent FA status though). Kariteh (talk) 22:23, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
It's strange that there is so little information on him...And it's not even like Zack, who is new enough to not have that kind of information. But, like Kariteh said, we should probably get some Ultimania information. I'm going to be buying the Reunion Files soon, and while it may not have much great information, I might still be able to pull up a few good refs. WhiteArcticWolf (talk) 02:50, 30 July 2008 (UTC)
I would appreciate it if WPFF would assist me in keeping this article as accurate as possible and to revert any changes of Reverse Sephiroth back to the incorrect Rebirth Sephiroth. "Reverse" has been the official romanization for some time now - the easiset proof of which can be found on the card that comes with the FFCreatures since pictures of it are readily available. I really don't want to have to scan and potentially harm any of the books I have, but this has been going on for years. --96.230.27.53 (talk) 23:56, 14 August 2008 (UTC)

I recommend expanding it to cover Final Fantasy XIII characters in general so it doesn't get merged or deleted. Final Fantasy Discography articles

Discography of FF1/2 and 7 were promoted today, which means that officially, all of the "Discography of FF#" articles, from 1 to 12, are good articles, as well as X-2 and Tactics series! --PresN (talk) 00:39, 14 August 2008 (UTC)

The most amazing turnaround in article quality since Guyinblack transformed the Kingdom Hearts articles...I cannot think of a big enough barnstar to give you for all that work! Judgesurreal777 (talk) 03:19, 14 August 2008 (UTC)
By the way, if you get the main FF music article to GA, and two more FA's, you could do a Music of the main final fantasy series topic, so it would include 1-12 only and wouldn't have to deal with the other ones (chocobo, tactic, crystal chronicles), and then later you could do a supplimentary addition and add all the rest of the final fantasy music articles. Judgesurreal777 (talk) 03:22, 14 August 2008 (UTC)
Tell us what barnstar you want and it's yours by the way, you earned it! :) Judgesurreal777 (talk) 03:46, 14 August 2008 (UTC)
Barnstar of diligence, I suppose. It fits, and I don't have that one yet. --PresN (talk) 04:02, 14 August 2008 (UTC)
Just to put them in one place, here are the remaining music articles;
 1. Music of the Final Fantasy series
 2. The Black Mages
 3. The Black Mages discography
 4. Dear Friends -Music from Final Fantasy-
 5. Project Majestic Mix: A Tribute to Nobuo Uematsu
 6. Tour de Japon
 7. Distant Worlds: Music from Final Fantasy
 8. Discography of the Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles series
 9. Discography of the Chocobo series

I don't want to step on your toes, after all these are your babies :), but I just wanted to think out loud;

You could merge Dear Friends, Tour, and Distant Worlds into a List of Final Fantasy musical tours and make that an FL. Also, you could merge the Black Mages Discography if it's not notability enough back to the Black Mages article. Then there would only be 6 articles left to make GA and then all the music articles would be complete :) Judgesurreal777 (talk) 03:46, 14 August 2008 (UTC)

WikiProject Media franchises

Dear WikiProject Final Fantasy participants...WikiProject Media franchises needs some help from other projects which are similar. Media franchises' scope deals primarily with the coordination of articles within the hundreds if not thousands of media franchises which exist. Sometimes a franchise might just need color coordination of the various templates used; it could mean creating an article for the franchise as a jump off point for the children of it; or the creation of a new templating system for media franchise articles. The project primarily focuses on multimedia franchises. It would be great if some of this project's participants would come over and help the project get back on solid footing. Also, if you know of similar projects which have not received this, let Lady Aleena (talk · contribs) know. Please come and take a look at the project and see if you wish to lend a hand. You can sign up here if you wish. Thank you. LA @ 21:33, 14 August 2008 (UTC)

I've gone and listed Discography of Final Fantasy VII at Peer Review, as a first step to trying to get it to FA. Please stop by and look at it if you have a minute, I've never had an FAC before and there aren't any "discography" FAs, so I'm just winging it here. --PresN (talk) 19:31, 18 August 2008 (UTC)

Please? I have this sinking feeling I'm going to get massacred at FAC with the way it is right now. Even if all you do is stop by and say that it's good, that'd boost my confidence a bit. --PresN (talk) 02:54, 21 August 2008 (UTC)

Well, it's now at FAC. Fingers crossed- if this one can pass, then I can probably get a few more to the top. --PresN (talk) 17:48, 5 September 2008 (UTC)

Please, please come on by and vote/discuss. The nomination as it stands is going to die through no votes- even if you oppose, I don't care, just give me something to work with here. (Not that I'd mind you supporting!) --PresN (talk) 04:19, 11 September 2008 (UTC)

Featured and Good Topics

I think most people here already know, but WP:Featured topics has added on a new layer, WP:Good topics. --PresN (talk) 03:09, 11 September 2008 (UTC)

I'm almost finished cleaning up FF7 and will send it to GAN once it's ready. BTW, as FFX-2 and Mystic Quest aren't a part of the main series, I think they should be excluded when we re-nominate the FT. This has previously been discussed here. The Prince (talk) 13:50, 11 September 2008 (UTC)
I agree, though that reminds me- we need to get FFXIII peer reviewed- since we have an article, it needs to be in the topic and peer reviewed, though since it's unreleased, it doesn't have to be GA+. --PresN (talk) 14:41, 11 September 2008 (UTC)

Wikipedia 0.7 articles have been selected for Final Fantasy

Wikipedia 0.7 is a collection of English Wikipedia articles due to be released on DVD, and available for free download, later this year. The Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team has made an automated selection of articles for Version 0.7.

We would like to ask you to review the articles selected from this project. These were chosen from the articles with this project's talk page tag, based on the rated importance and quality. If there are any specific articles that should be removed, please let us know at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.7. You can also nominate additional articles for release, following the procedure at Wikipedia:Release Version Nominations.

A list of selected articles with cleanup tags, sorted by project, is available. The list is automatically updated each hour when it is loaded. Please try to fix any urgent problems in the selected articles. A team of copyeditors has agreed to help with copyediting requests, although you should try to fix simple issues on your own if possible.

We would also appreciate your help in identifying the version of each article that you think we should use, to help avoid vandalism or POV issues. These versions can be recorded at this project's subpage of User:SelectionBot/0.7. We are planning to release the selection for the holiday season, so we ask you to select the revisions before October 20. At that time, we will use an automatic process to identify which version of each article to release, if no version has been manually selected. Thanks! For the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial team, SelectionBot 22:26, 15 September 2008 (UTC)

Just an FYI- The VG Project has created a page to track and assist with the preparations of the selected articles. Most, if not all, articles at User:SelectionBot/0.7/F-2#Final Fantasy are also listed on the VG workshop page. Final Fantasy editors are welcome and encouraged to coordinate together to ensure the necessary articles are presentable. (Guyinblack25 talk 17:04, 23 September 2008 (UTC))

Discography of Final Fantasy XII Peer Review

Is here. This is the next one I'm pushing to FAC, assuming FF7 passes. Getting this to FA will move the (nominated) FF12 Good Topic to a Featured Topic like our FF8 one, and is one step closer to a Disc. of Final Fantasy FT. Please come by and comment on the article! --PresN (talk) 16:45, 17 September 2008 (UTC)

Famitsu

Is there anyone on the Wikiproject that actually has a collection of the Jam mag Famitu? I've looked over some of the FF articles and most of the attribution are to 3rd party sources. I was just wondering b/c the magazine is frequently used in important Japanese game review sections (i.e., Final Fantasy), but is conspicuously absent from WP:VG/M. --Hydrokinetics12 (talk) 20:28, 19 September 2008 (UTC)

I think you'll have a hard time finding anyone in possession of Famitsu magazines. They're only sold in Japan, and they're written in Japanese, which will be a problem as most editors on EnWiki can't read it. BTW, if the information you're referring to is from a reliable source, there really isn't any problem. The Prince (talk) 21:55, 19 September 2008 (UTC)

Final Fantasy VII to GA status

Resolved

Okay, I think this article is shaping up nicely, and is, IMO, very close to GA status. Are there any last-minute comments before the article gets sent to GAN? My primary concerns are: statements like FF7 being the best-selling FF title and the quote from GameFan are missing citations, the story section is still pretty long, and the prose may not be that great. The only problem is 1. I don't know where to locate such sources, 2. The story of FF7 is very complex, and cutting it even further may leave out essential details to understanding the plot, and 3. I'm terrible with prose, so someone else might have to take a look over. Thoughts? The Prince (talk) 22:31, 19 September 2008 (UTC)

I wouldn't worry too much about the Story section; the game is three discs long, and even games like Final Fantasy V have a pretty big Story section. It may be hard to find a good source that says specifically FFVII is the best-selling of the FF games, though IGN may help. If not, it was for sure a best-selling game, and I believe there are sources that say that. As for the GameFan quote...Eh, best to look on WP:VG/M and such for owners of the specific magazine. The quote probably comes from the case of the Greatest Hits version of FFVII (it does say that on the back, though I'm not sure if you're able to reference game cases...) Good luck! Thanks for the comments. To be honest, I don't think these issues are too big to prevent the article from becoming a GA. I'll send it to GAN, and if they pop up, I'll address them accordingly. The Prince (talk) 16:49, 20 September 2008 (UTC)

I need some help here. If there is anyone who is in possession of these [4], [5], [6] magazines, then let me know. The section "Design and inspirations" contains information from those magazines, and the GAN reviewer has listed some issues about it that need to be addressed. As I don't own any of those magazines, I won't be able address them, but if anyone does: please say so, so that we can get this article to GA status. The Prince (talk) 12:50, 23 September 2008 (UTC)
