Shibi Aburame

File:Aburame Shibi.jpg
Shibi Aburame

Shibi Aburame (油女シビ, Aburame Shibi) is the father of Shino Aburame. During the Invasion of Konoha he used his bugs to draw the poison from Kankuro's puppet out of his son's body. It is unknown what the gourd on his back is for, but it is assumed that it is for holding more kikaichu insects. A scene in one of the anime fillers supports this, as it shows the Aburame clan doing battle with the Kamizuru clan, another clan of insect users. One of the Aburame clan members is wearing a similar gourd.

According to the databooks, his favorite phrase is "Even the soul of an insect has 5 parts" from the Konoha Hundred leaf collections. The Hundred Leaf Collections (hyakuyoshu) is a reference to Man'yōshū ("Collection of Ten Thousand Leaves"), a famous collection of Japanese poems. The second databook also says that he is "a self-possessed figure, the pride of Aburame", suggesting that he may be the leader of the Aburame clan.

Choza Akimichi

File:Akimichi Chouza.JPG
Choza Akimichi

Choza Akimichi (秋道チョウザ, Akimichi Chōza) is the father of Choji Akimichi. Like his son, he was part of an Ino-Shika-Cho trio, together with Shikaku Nara and Inoichi Yamanaka. He, like his son, enjoys eating large amounts of food.

Dan

File:Dan (from Naruto).jpg
Dan

Dan (ダン) was Shizune's uncle and Tsunade's boyfriend. Because his younger sister died during one of the many raids on the village, he aimed to be able to better protect his loved ones. For this end, he wanted to become Hokage. He died during a battle despite Tsunade's desperate efforts to save him. His death caused Tsunade's hemophobia and made her leave Konoha together with Shizune.

Many years after Dan's death, Orochimaru had tried to convince Tsunade to heal his arms, which had been sealed by the Third Hokage (effectively preventing him from using most jutsu), by offering to bring Dan and Tsunade's little brother back to life by using a forbidden jutsu.

Kakashi Hatake

Sakumo Hatake

Sakumo Hatake
  • Age: ? (deceased)
  • Rank: ?
  • Height: ?
  • Weight: ?
  • Birthday: ?
  • Blood Type: ?
  • Unique trait: White Light Chakra Sabre

Sakumo Hatake (はたけサクモ, Hatake Sakumo), also known as Konoha's White Fang (木ノ葉の白い牙, Konoha no Shiroi Kiba) after the White Light Chakra Sabre (白光チャクラ刀, Hakkō Chakura To) he used, was the father of Kakashi Hatake. Sakumo was the enemy of Chiyo's son, who is Sasori's father or uncle. According to the Fourth Hokage, Sakumo was once respected as much as the Legendary Three Ninjas (伝説の三忍, Densetsu no Sannin) before he fell in disgrace after botching a mission that caused Konohagakure to suffer great losses. Despite knowing how critically important completion of the mission was, Sakumo had chosen to save the lives of his comrades over the success of the mission. Dishonored, Sakumo committed seppuku after deep depression and a drop in his skills, which caused Kakashi to lead his life strictly according to the Ninja code. Sakumo left his White Light Chakra Sabre to Kakashi, which utilized chakra to produce a trail of white light from the blade when swung (the blade being the metaphorical "fang"). It was cut in half during a fight between Kakashi and an Iwagakure shinobi.

Shikaku Nara

File:Nara Shikaku.JPG
Shikaku Nara

Shikaku Nara (奈良シカク, Nara Shikaku) is the father of Shikamaru Nara. "Shika" means deer but "shikaku" can mean assassin. Like his son, he was part of an Ino-Shika-Cho trio, together with Choza Akimichi and Inoichi Yamanaka. He is married to Yoshino Nara who, as his son says, has him whipped. As a member of the Nara clan, he raises deer, whose antlers can be used to make a medicine which halts the destructive effects of the Akimichi clan's three colored pills. Along with his former teammates, Inoichi and Choza, he helped defend Konoha from attack by Sand and Sound-nin. When he is first seen he is portrayed as a bit of an alcoholic and also uses Shikamaru's catchphrases. He also appears to be much better than Asuma in Shogi, as seen in chapter 342, where he defeats his son in a match soon after Asuma's death was avenged.

Asuma Sarutobi

Shizune

File:Shizune001.jpg
Shizune

Shizune (シズネ) is the assistant of Tsunade and a talented Medic-nin. Shizune is quite close to Tsunade, one of the few people Tsunade will trust with absolute certainty and a fairly talented and capable ninja in her own right, often using jutsu involving poison (such as Poison Mist and Prepared Needle Shot). Unlike Tsunade, she is level headed, practical, and a rational thinker. As a result, she is the one who tends to stress over details like Tsunade's tendency to gamble and think with her heart. She often gets comically worked up over any irrational decision Tsunade makes. Shizune also looks after Tonton, Tsunade's pet pig.

After her uncle Dan died, Shizune left Konoha with Tsunade, as her apprentice. When Orochimaru comes to Tsunade years later in an attempt to get her to heal his arms, Shizune attempts to persuade Tsunade against it, even trying to convince Tsunade to help her kill Orochimaru. When all attempts to persuade Tsunade fail, Shizune tries to use force to stop Tsunade from helping Orochimaru, though Tsunade easily defeats her. She later fights with Kabuto Yakushi in an effort to protect an incapacitated Tsunade and Naruto Uzumaki, but Kabuto proves too much for her as he easily dodges her attacks and incapacitates her as well.

When Tsunade takes on the title of Hokage, Shizune leads a team consisting of Genma Shiranui, Raido Namiashi, and Iwashi Tatami to compensate for the lack of manpower caused by the invasion of Konoha. When Genma and Raido are defeated by the Sound Four, Shizune heals their wounds. Later, she is seen leading a medical team charged with regenerating the wounds of Neji Hyuga.

In Part II, Shizune expresses concern in Tsunade's decision to allow Naruto to go out on missions, and reports this to the village elders. Although Tsunade is able to reach a compromise with the elders, Shizune doubts Tsunade's wisdom, though she does seem to regain faith later on.

Inoichi Yamanaka

Inoichi Yamanaka

Inoichi Yamanaka (山中いのいち, Yamanaka Inoichi) is the father of Ino Yamanaka. Like his daughter, he was part of an Ino-Shika-Cho trio, together with Shikaku Nara and Choza Akimichi. The other two often tease him about having a daughter instead of a son.

Ebisu

File:Ebisu2.jpg
Ebisu

Ebisu (エビス) specializes in the private training of elite ninja, as stated by Kakashi Hatake. The name "Ebisu" comes from the Japanese god Ebisu, who is usually pictured as a fisherman that brings wealth and prosperity to believers, and watches over the health of young children. He is Konohamaru's tutor, and dislikes the fact that Konohamaru idolizes Naruto Uzumaki, because he only sees Naruto as the container of the Demon fox. His opinion of Naruto doesn't change when Naruto "defeats" him with the Harem Technique after the Sexy Technique fails. Naruto often refers to him as the "closet pervert" because of this.

Later, recommended by Kakashi Hatake as a great teacher, Ebisu begins Naruto's one-month training for the main matches of the Chunin Exam. It is during this time that through being with Naruto and seeing the influence he had on Konohamaru that Ebisu realizes that Naruto is not just the container of a demon, but that he is an outstanding Konoha ninja. However, Ebisu does not complete Naruto's training, because Jiraiya takes over by summoning a large toad which tongue-whips Ebisu unconscious.

In Part II, he has been put in charge of a Genin team with Konohamaru and his two friends, Udon and Moegi, as its members. He now wears the standard combat vest instead of his more casual outfit from the first part of the series.

Hayate Gekko

File:GekkouHayate.PNG
Hayate Gekko

Hayate Gekko (月光 ハヤテ, Gekkō Hayate) was the examiner of the preliminary third portion of the Chunin exams. The name "Gekko" means "moonlight" and "Hayate" means "quick as wind". Both are names of Japanese fighter planes from World War II. At first sight, Hayate appears to not be in the best of health, as he has an unexplained chronic cough and bags under his eyes. He seems to be very skilled for his age, which Baki notes right before killing him.

Hayate was the first to discover the truth behind the secret invasion plan between the Sound and the Sand, having been spying on Baki during his meeting with Kabuto Yakushi. Kabuto offered to kill Hayate himself, but Baki did so as an act of good faith.

Hayate's lover, Yugao Uzuki, swore that she would avenge his death - a task that will prove difficult as his killer Baki is now their ally.

Tsume Inuzuka

File:Inuzuka Tsume.jpg
Tsume Inuzuka

Tsume Inuzuka (犬塚ツメ, Inuzuka Tsume) is the mother of Hana and Kiba. "Tsume" means "claw" or "talon". Like most Inuzuka members, she's tough, but cares for her family. During the Invasion of Konoha, she fought alongside her dog Kuromaru.

Anko Mitarashi

File:Mitarashi Anko.jpg
Anko Mitarashi

Anko Mitarashi (みたらしアンコ, Mitarashi Anko) is the examiner for the second exam of the Chunin Selection Exams. She announced this during Ibiki Morino's speech, after she made a rather loud entrance into his class, annoying him since she was early. Anko is easygoing, tomboyish and sometimes hyperactive, making her very similar to Naruto in many ways. According to the official databook Anko's favorite foods are sweet bean soup and dango (dumplings). Mitarashi and anko are ingredients of dango. Her least favorite foods are spicy food. Her hobby is tea ceremonies and her favorite phrase is "Arriving!" Anko's body glove is a customized garment made of metal mesh.

During the exam, she arrives at a confrontation with Orochimaru and it is revealed that he used to be her sensei. Anko, along with nine others, were branded with Orochimaru's first ten Cursed Seals of Heaven. Of the ten, Anko was the only one to survive, establishing the one-in-ten chance of surviving the Cursed Seal. Orochimaru supposedly rejected Anko as a subordinate, believing she did not have the lust for power or vengeance needed to fuel the Cursed Seal. Orochimaru lost interest in her, though he believes there is some value in letting her live. Orochimaru was able to reawaken her cursed seal during their battle in the Forest of Death, thus incapacitating her with pain and ending their fight. Anko knows several forbidden techniques taught to her by Orochimaru, the most notable of which is Twin Snakes Mutual Death, a murder-suicide technique she attempted to use to eliminate her former sensei in the Forest of Death for the sake of Konoha. She can also summon snakes like he can, though she only does so once during the Sea Country filler arc. In that instance, she summoned a blue version of one of Orochimaru's normal snakes.

In the anime, Anko's past is explored during the Sea Country filler arc, in which she leads Naruto, Ino, and Shino on a mission to protect a shipping convoy. The Sea Country is where Anko was found after Orochimaru had branded her with his cursed seal and subsequently abandoned her. Orochimaru had also erased any memory Anko had of the event, so this was a chance for her to remember. After the mission, Anko finds her way back to the place where she received the curse mark from Orochimaru and remembers what happened. She discovered that she wasn't tossed away like trash, but chose to leave Orochimaru herself.

Ibiki Morino

File:Morino Ibiki.jpg
Ibiki Morino

Ibiki Morino (森乃イビキ, Morino Ibiki) is the examiner for the first part of the Chunin Selection Exam. Morino Ibiki means "A snore in the forest", which clearly refers to his resemblence to a big bear.

Ibiki often refers to Naruto as "an interesting guy". He calls him that twice after the first part of the Chunin exam and later after the Tea Country Arc. This is probably due to the fact that Naruto will not allow himself to be intimidated by anything. In fact, Naruto was the only one to pass with a blank test during the first exam, willing to face the possibility of never becoming a Chunin in order to protect his team from disqualification. Naruto's impassioned speech at the end of that exam, just before the final question is revealed (there is no actual question, it's merely a test of self-confidence and anyone lacking that fails), inspires confidence in the other students, and results in a greater number of passing Genin than anyone expected.

As the commanding officer of the Konoha Anbu Torture and Interrogation Force (木ノ葉暗部拷問・尋問部隊, Konoha Anbu Gomon/Jinmon Butai), he is clearly the designer of the test. Described as a sadist by some, Ibiki has the ability to subject people to great suffering without ever using physical torture. His interrogational skills rely solely on his capablity to torture the mind. He has complete knowledge of human psychology; by attacking a person's mind, he can gain control over their spirit.

Ibiki's head is covered to hide burn marks, punctures from where screws were used, and long slash marks. The scars on his head show the signs of the physical torture he has endured, and illustrates his capacity to endure pain without giving up the desired information to the enemy.

In the Tea Country filler arc of the anime, Ibiki Morino is shown to have a younger brother, Idate, who left the Leaf Village with Aoi Rokusho and defected to Amegakure. It was also shown that some of his larger scars were Aoi's doing.

Ibiki makes his Part II debut in Chapter 331, threatening to torture Kakuzu's bounty-hunting contact in Konoha for information regarding Kakuzu.

Raido Namiashi

File:Raidou.jpg
Raido Namiashi

Raido Namiashi (並足ライドウ, Namiashi Raidō) has a large scar on his left cheek. "Namiashi" means "walking pace." "Raido" means "following blindly." He served as the Third Hokage's assistant during the third Chunin exam. Later he was on the same team as Shizune, Genma Shiranui and Iwashi Tatami. He and Genma confronted the Sound Four who were escorting Sasuke Uchiha to Orochimaru. The Sound Four had to activate their Cursed Seals to defeat them. Raido was in critical condition after the fight, but was saved by Shizune's medical expertise.

Raido makes an appearance in chapter 327, aiding the Niju Shotai team under the lead of Asuma against Hidan and Kakuzu. After Aoba Yamashiro uses an unnamed technique to create a swarm of crows, Raido uses black blades and a black cape to disguise himself among the crows, leaving the enemy open for surprise attacks. Although his attack failed, it allowed Shikamaru to learn critical information on Kakuzu.

Genma Shiranui

File:Shiranui Genma.jpg
Genma Shiranui

Genma Shiranui (不知火ゲンマ, Shiranui Genma) replaced Hayate Gekko as examiner of the main matches of the Chunin Exam after Hayate was killed by Baki. "Shiranui" means "phosphorescent light". Genma is often seen with a senbon in his mouth. He uses this as a weapon, spitting it out at the enemy to attack them, or to deflect ranged weapon attacks.

When Orochimaru's plan to destroy Konoha is executed, Genma battles Baki, presumably to a draw since both of them came out of the fight relatively unscathed. Later, he was on the same team as Shizune, Raido Namiashi, and Iwashi Tatami. He and Raido confronted the Sound Four, who were escorting Sasuke Uchiha to Orochimaru. The Sound Four had to activate their Level 2 Cursed Seals to defeat them but still suffered a lot of injuries and were forced to rest. Genma and Raido were found by Shizune. Raido was critically injured while Genma was left near-death. Shizune was able to stabilize both of them and took them back to the Konoha hospital. The sound ninja later commented that if it hadn't been for their seals they would have lost. Note that he also wears his headband backwards, and appears to be the only Jonin in Konoha to do so.

Aoba Yamashiro

File:Yamashiro Aoba.jpg
Aoba Yamashiro
  • Age: 302 in Part I, 32 in Part II
  • Specialization: Examiner, Bodyguard
  • Height: 178 cm2
  • Weight: 66 kg2
  • Birthday: September 32
  • Blood Type: O2

Aoba Yamashiro (山城アオバ, Yamashiro Aoba) was one of the handful of Konoha shinobi that dispelled Kabuto's Temple of Nirvana Technique and fought against the invading Sound and Sand ninja.

After Itachi Uchiha's visit to Konoha, Aoba burst into Kakashi's room and shouted for confirmation about Itachi's return to the village without checking who was in the room. Unfortunately, Sasuke was also in the room, and ran off in anger upon hearing the announcement. The other Jonin in the room just stared at him blankly. Kurenai quietly called him an idiot.

Aoba makes an appearance in Chapter 327, aiding the Niju Shotai team under the lead of Asuma against Hidan and Kakuzu. He demonstrates a technique involving large numbers of crows to swarm and blind the enemy. The crows seem to be dispelled like shadow clones when struck and are used to disguise Raido Namiashi's movements, since he wears all-black clothing to match the crows' color.
