Kingsknowe /ˌkɪŋzˈnaʊ/ is a suburb of Edinburgh the capital of Scotland. It is south-west of Craiglockhart. It borders Wester Hailes, Slateford and Longstone

The area is served by Kingsknowe railway station which is part of the Edinburgh Waverley railway station - Glasgow Central station railway link. Kingsknowe playing fields are home to Currie Star F.C., with three pitches available to the public.

TRAVEL

Kingsknowe has a railway station that has a semi-frequent service into Edinburgh City Centre and out to Glasgow Central.

Buses run into town via the No. 44 Lothian Bus from a few stops on the Lanark Road. The No. 35 Lothian bus runs from the Calder Road to the airport. Making the airport accessible from Kingksnowe for only £1.50 single, one way(current price 2014). the No. 20 Lothian bus runs directly through the Kingsknowe area. It is only an hourly service during the day and doesn't really go anywhere of use.

Kingsknowe is handily placed for easy access to Edinburgh City Centre and the M8 motorway.

ENTERTAINMENT

A local pub is located next to the railway station but it is a bit of an old man/rough pub.

SHOPS

Kingsknowe is served by a Co-op store which is handy and stocks a fair selection of food and drink but can be expensive. In the same area as the Co-op there is a chippy which does nice pizzas and calzones. There are also 2 Chinese take aways and an indian which do semi-decent food.

LEISURE

The area is dissected by the Union Canal which offers nice walks into the Colinton Dell and along to Ratho to name a few stops along it's way.

FYI

Mercifully the Wester Hailes Quarry and the fact that Kingsknowe Place is a cul-de-sac street prevents the junkies and alchies of Sighthill and Westhailes venturing into the area.
