Jason Griffith
Jason A. Griffith is an American voice actor who has worked on several animated TV series, and is currently the official voice of Sonic the Hedgehog and Shadow the Hedgehog in the Sonic the Hedgehog video game series. Outside the Sonic series, his voice is well-known as that of Usopp and his father Yasopp, in the 4Kids version of the animated TV series One Piece. He is also know as J. Griff in the credits of One Piece, Pokémon and later episodes of other media from 4Kids Entertainment. In the credits of Sonic and the Secret Rings and Chaotic, he is credited as Adam Caroleson.
Jason Griffith has also recently starred in a commercial[citation needed] that screened on MTV.
Sonic the Hedgehog controversy
He started doing the voice of Sonic and Shadow in the Sonic X television series. He was later hired by Sega to be the official voice of Sonic and Shadow in the Sonic game series. He began his work in the games in Shadow the Hedgehog and Sonic Rush. In Sonic Riders, Griffith provided the voice for Jet. Griffith's character voices have been negatively viewed by fans of the old voice cast of the Sonic series, as his voice for Sonic has been criticized by critics for lacking the enthusiasm that Sonic's last voice actor Ryan Drummond put into the role while to others it's the voice itself that is inappropriate for the character. He is also criticized for not being able to fit Shadow's personality as well as David Humphrey did as to fans, he sounds more depressed and monotone. Fans have been sending Sega letters, phone calls, e-mails, and petitions demanding to give the role of Sonic back to Ryan Drummond and the role of Shadow back to David Humphrey. Sega hasn't commented on the fans' demands so far, though they did hint that the old voice actors may be brought back due to Sonic X's cancellation (With the obvious exception of Eggman, whose voice actor was replaced due to the death of the original actor). But due to the fact that the newly released Sonic game has done so well, most fans don't seem to mind the new voices.
