Song information
The song was written by Lopez and her then husband, Chris Judd and produced by Corey Rooney. "Alive" was written for the soundtrack of Lopez's movie Enough (although it was not included on the CD). Following the themes of that movie, the song is about the struggles of battered women, who are able to overcome their abusive husbands to make it out alive. To explain the message of the song, Lopez sings, "The strength to stand alone...the power of not knowing and letting go..I guess I've found my way it's simple when its right..Feeling lucky just to be here tonight..And happy just be me and be alive." The song has become an anthem for battered women across the country and several women have written to Lopez about how that song has affected them. On an episode of The Oprah Winfrey Show, a woman even came up to Lopez and explained how that song kept her going even after the abuses she endured.
