Tephrocyon † is an extinct genus of the Borophaginae and a terrestrial canine which inhabited most of North America during the Barstovian stage (16.3 Mya—13.6 Mya) of the Middle Miocene.[1] Tephrocyon existed for approximately 2.7 million years.
Fossil record
It is a rarely found genus, with fossil deposits only occurring in western Nebraska, Wyoming, New Mexico and north Florida. Desmocyon contains one species: Tephrocyon rurestris. It was first named by Merriam 1909.
