(Feels Like) Heaven is a song by the Scottish music group Fiction Factory . It was released as a single in late 1983 and appeared on their debut album Throw the Warped Wheel Out . The song became a hit in many countries, the band is also considered a one-hit wonder because of the title .

Origin and content

The song was written by singer Kevin Patterson with keyboardist Eddie Jordan and produced by Peter Wilson . Despite the love song-like title, the song is about separation and loss in stanzas. A melody similar to a carillon follows the chorus line in the melodic pop and new wave song.

Publication and reception

The song was released as a single on CBS in December 1983 . Everyone But You appeared on the B-side . (Feels Like) Heaven was a hit in Switzerland and reached number two in the single charts. It reached number six in the UK . Further chart positions were number ten in Germany , number 14 in Sweden , number 20 in Austria and number 24 in New Zealand . The song also appeared on many 1980s compilations .

Music video

The music video shows the band in shots filmed with a rocking camera. Two twin girls can be seen playing in a meadow and with their father. They appear - with an unrecognizable person standing behind them - at the end of the video in a church where the band members are sitting and where it is obviously very cold. In the final scene, singer Kevin Patterson is replaced by a little boy.

Cover versions

In 2003 Dario G recorded a dance version called Heaven Is Closer (Feels Like Heaven) , which came in at 38th in the UK, 57th in Germany, 42nd in Austria and 87th in Switzerland. In 2008 Sylwania, a German dance project, also recorded a version. In the same year the metal band Atrocity covered the song on Werk 80 II . In 2011 a version of Slow Moving Millie was recorded. In 2012 Matt Consola featuring Ben Holder & LFB covered the song with additional remixes by Joel Dickinson , Sean Mac, Christian Poow, SpekrFreks, Chubby Fingers and Swishcraft (aka Matt Consola & LFB). In 2016, the Manic Street Preachers played the piece during their Everything Must Go tour for the band's 20th anniversary. A studio recording of the band appeared on the compilation BBC Radio 2's Sounds of the 80s, Vol. 2 .
