Álfrún Gunnlaugsdóttir (born March 18, 1938 in Reykjavík , Iceland ) is an Icelandic writer .

Life

After graduating from school, she studied literature and philosophy in Catalonia . From 1966 to 1970 she worked on her doctoral thesis at the University of Lausanne in Switzerland . 1970 doctorate Álfrún at the Autonomous University of Barcelona Dr. phil. From 1971 to 1977 she was a lecturer in literature at the University of Iceland . In the same department she was a lecturer from 1977 to 1987 ; In 1988 she was given a professorship which she held until her retirement in 2006. She lives in Seltjarnarnes , a suburb of Reykjavík.

Works

To date, Álfrún has published seven novels, translated texts from Spanish and written articles for specialist journals.

In 1985 she received the DV literary award for her second book, the novel Þel . Three of her novels have been nominated for the Nordic Council's literary prize: Hringsól (1991), Hvatt að rúnum (1995) and Yfir Ebrofljótið (2003). Already in 2001 was yfir Ebrofljótið for the Icelandic Literature Prize nominated, so in 2008 her novel Rán .

Translated into German is z. B. the novel In trust ( Hvatt að rúnum ). In this novel, several narrative levels overlap in an artistic way: a medieval saga, a story from the 18th century and one from the present.
