Álvaro Véliz (born February 9, 1972 in Santiago de Chile ) is a Chilean singer .

Life

He took his first steps in his musical career at singing festivals at his school. At the age of nine he took part in "El clan infantil" on the television station Sábado Gigante . Then he started singing for commercials.

In 1980 he decided to study music with a focus on guitar, piano and conducting at the University of Chile , during which time he also sang in pubs and discos.

In 1998 he won the competition for new artists on the television program " Sabado Gigante " in Miami . He also participated in the recording of Spanish versions of songs from cartoons such as Dragon Ball Z , Detective Conan and Slam Dunk and the theme song from the movie Pokémon .

With increasing success, Alvaro Veliz took part in the Telethon Chile charity event in 2000 . In 2001 he was awarded the APES Prize, in 2004 for the Best Album of the Year des National Arts Altazor , three years later he won this prize again with his album Mía .

In 2005 he won the XLVII Festival Internacional de la Canción de Viña del Mar competition with the song Hoy by musician Eric Phillips .
