Ángel Fernández Artime SDB (born August 21, 1960 in Gozón , Asturias ) is a Spanish religious . He has been Superior General of the Salesians of Don Bosco since 2014, making him the tenth successor to the founder of the order, Johannes Bosco .

Life

Ángel Fernández Artime joined the Order of the Salesians of Don Bosco (SDB) on September 3, 1978 . After studying education , philosophy and theology , he made perpetual profession on June 17, 1984 in Santiago de Compostela . He received in the July 4, 1987 Leon the priesthood . He was first pastorally active in the youth and school director of the Don Bosco College in Ourense . From 2000 to 2006 he was Provincial in his home province of León and co-organizer of the Order's 26th General Chapter in 2008.

From 2009 to 2013 he headed the Southern Argentina Order , based in Buenos Aires ; there he worked with the then Archbishop of Buenos Aires, Jorge Mario Bergoglio, who is now Pope Francis . At the end of 2013 he was appointed Provincial of the Religious Province in southern Spain, based in Seville . He did not take on this task, however, as he was elected Superior General at the General Chapter of the Order in 2014. In this position he is the successor of the Mexican Pascual Chávez Villanueva .
