Ángel Santiesteban Prats

Ángel Santiesteban Prats (born August 2, 1966 in Havana ) is a Cuban writer.

Life

Ángel Santiesteban was considered a literary hope for the Cuban communist regime and was therefore promoted. Under pressure from the regime, he submitted to the required self-censorship at times in the 1990s. When he criticized the regime on his blog Los hijos que nadie quiso , a publication ban was imposed on him in 2007.

In December 2012, Santiesteban was sentenced to five years in prison for "trespassing and assault". He was conditionally released from prison in July 2015 under pressure from the Writers in Prison Committee (WiPC) of PEN International .
