Michi Strausfeld

Michi Strausfeld (* 1945 in Recklinghausen , actually Mechtild Strausfeld ) is a German literary scholar, editor, editor and literary intermediary between Latin America and Germany. She has mainly translated and edited literature from Latin America and Spain.

Life

Michi Strausfeld studied English, Romance and Hispanic Studies and in 1970 spent a study period in Colombia . She received her doctorate in 1976 with a dissertation on “The New Latin American Novel and Gabriel García Márquez ”. From 1974 to 2008 she was responsible for the Spanish-Latin American publishing program of the Suhrkamp Verlag as a publishing editor . More than 350 titles from Ibero America were published there . In 2008 she moved to S. Fischer Verlag , for which she worked until 2016 and set up a new program. She edited several volumes of material and numerous anthologies. She also edited seven volumes for the magazine die horen . She is a member of the German PEN Center .

Michi Strausfeld lives in Berlin and Barcelona .

Honors

  • In 2009 she received the Orden de Isabel la Católica for her services as a literary mediator between Spain and Germany .
  • At the 2012 Buenos Aires Book Fair , she was included in the list of the 50 most important contemporary publishers of Spanish-language books.
  • In 2015 she was awarded the Grand Cross by Alfonso X the Wise for her work as an editor in Spain of books for children and young people (more than 800 titles).
