Älvkvarnsten
The Älvkvarnsten is a cup stone that is located on Götalandsvägen in Lerkrogsparken in Solberga , south of Stockholm in Södermanland in Sweden .
The Älvkvarnsten originally comes from a flat slope about 1100 m southwest of its current location. The area, which was converted into an industrial park in 1966, was called Hästhagen and belonged to the Älvsjö farm ( German "Elfensee" ). At that time it was moved to the intersection Rågsvedsvägen / Huddingevägen and forgotten. In 1994 it was rediscovered and moved to its current location.
The Älvkvarnstenen is a block about 1.8 × 1.2 meters and about 0.2 to 0.5 meters thick. On its surface there are about 120 small bowls ( Swedish Skålgropar or Älvkvarnar - German " elf mills" ), which date from the Bronze Age . They are 3.0 to 6.0 cm in diameter and 1.5 to 3.0 cm deep. There is a borehole in the southeast corner.
Stones of this type are classified in the fertility cult. According to tradition, fairies ( Swedish Älvar ) grind grain in the pits or mills ( Swedish Kvarner ).
