Ålö is an island in the south of the Stockholm archipelago . It belongs to the Swedish municipality of Haninge .

location

Ålö lies between Rånö in the west and Utö in the northeast. Ålö is only separated from the neighboring island of Utö by a narrow strait, the Alsundet. Both islands are connected by a bridge. The island of Stora Björn is located about one kilometer southwest of Ålö. In the southeast there is the open sea as far as the Baltic States .

Infrastructure

There are 18 people living on the island. Ålö Gård is in the center of the island and has a garage.

The island can be reached by Skärgårdsbåt , a regular boat service from Nynäshamn to Ålö and Rånö, or by boat taxi. The crossing from Strömkajen in Stockholm takes about 90 minutes.

At the southern end of the island, next to the Waxholmsbolaget ferry terminal, is the Krogen Båtshaket restaurant .

On the southeast side is a large, horseshoe-shaped sandy beach, the Storsand . Otherwise the coast consists mostly of rugged cliffs.

natural reserve

Ålö, Nåttarö and Rånö have a rich flora and fauna. That is why the three islands were declared a nature reserve in 2008 .
