Ernst Gottlob von Scheelen

Ernst Gottlob of Scheelen (* 4. February 1726 in buying Fung ; † 9. August 1786 in Potsdam ) was a Prussian major general , commander of the 1st Battalion of the Life Guards and Amtshauptmann of Saatzig and Mr. Fung to low purchasing.

Military career

Scheelen came in February 1742 as a private corporal in the infantry regiment "von Kalckstein" and in the same year took part in the battle of Chotusitz during the First Silesian War . There he was appointed ensign on August 17, 1747 and promoted to second lieutenant on April 2, 1756 . During the Seven Years' War Scheelen advanced to prime lieutenant , fought near Prague , Kolin , Leuthen and Torgau and was awarded the order Pour le Mérite for his achievements in the siege of Schweidnitz in 1762 .

After the peace treaty, Scheelen rose to captain and company commander at the end of November 1763 . In mid-March 1772, when he was promoted to major, he was appointed governor of Oletzko in recognition of his services. As a colonel , he took part in the War of the Bavarian Succession . Scheelen received another token of favor from his king on August 21, 1784, when Friedrich II appointed him Canon of Halberstadt . With a bonus of 2000 thalers, he was promoted to major general the following month.

Scheelen died unmarried and left behind a large military library, including numerous of his own diaries.
