Årøysund is a village in the Norwegian municipality of Færder , in the province ( Fylke ) Vestfold og Telemark . The place has 1551 inhabitants (as of 2019).

geography

Årøysund is a so-called Tettsted , i.e. a settlement that is counted as one area for statistical purposes. The village is located on the sound of the same name , which separates the island of Nøtterøy from the island of Nordre Årøy. Årøysund is located on the south east coast of Nøtterøy on the Oslofjord .

history

Until the end of 2017, Årøysund was still part of what was then Nøtterøy Municipality . As part of the state- wide municipal reform, this was transferred to the newly created municipality of Færder. As part of the regional reform in Norway , the village also changed its county membership from Vestfold to the new province of Vestfold og Telemark on January 1, 2020 .
