Åsgårdstrand is a seaside resort founded in the 16th century on the Oslofjord in Vestfold og Telemark in Norway .

Åsgårdstrand was a politically independent municipality until 1965 and has since been divided between the municipalities of Tønsberg and mostly Horten .

Åsgårdstrand has become known worldwide as an artists' colony . The most famous artists who lived and worked here were Edvard Munch , Christian Krohg and Hans Heyerdahl . Edvard Munch's summer house has been preserved as a small museum.
