The Åsnen is a lake in Småland in southern Sweden . It is south of Alvesta and Växjö , and northwest of Tingsryd . It is the largest lake in Småland after Bolmen . The lake is 138 meters above sea level and has an area of approx. 150 km², of which 19 km² are occupied by islands. Åsnen has many bays and islands, the largest of which is Sirkön. Large quantities of fruit such as apples and strawberries are grown on Sirkön and south of the lake near Urshult . In the south-west, the Mörrumsån river drains the lake.

Due to its abundance of fish, Åsnen is also a popular fishing spot. You can find pikeperch, pike, perch and eel in large quantities there. There is also the possibility of paddling from Asa in a canoe over Helgasjön , Alvesta and Huseby Bruk all the way to Åsnen to Tingsryd, and from there further south to the mouth of Mörrumsån in Blekinge . On the way there are places to sleep with sleeping accommodations.

The west bank in particular is very shallow and merges into larger wetlands. Here are some nature reserves with a rich bird life. The lake is also one of the Swedish Ramsar areas .

At the end of May 2018, part of the lake with islands and the surrounding shore areas in Sweden's 30th National Park was placed under special protection.
