The École des arts industriels et des mines was the name of the engineering school in the city of Lille in northern France from 1854 to 1872.

The city of Lille established three chairs in physics, chemistry and mechanics in 1817, 1822 and 1826. The engineering school, founded by Frédéric Kuhlmann in 1854, succeeded the chairs to meet the needs of the northern French industry.

The focus of the training in the first two years of the degree and the optional third year were the construction of machines, spinning and weaving, chemistry and metallurgy and mining.

In 1872 the engineering school was raised to the rank of technical university ( Institut industriel du Nord ). His legacy today is the École Centrale de Lille .
