The Institut industriel du Nord de la France , briefly Institut industriel du Nord or IDN , was the institute for engineering at the École Centrale de Lille from 1872 to 1991 .
The institute was founded in 1872 by Frédéric Kuhlmann and Henri Masquelez.

Today's École Centrale de Lille was founded in 1854 as École des arts industriels et des mines as a technical university in Lille ( France ) with the aim of training engineers. In 1872 the technical college was renamed 'Institut industriel du Nord de la France'.
