Jean Pierre Louis Girardin

Jean Pierre Louis Girardin (born November 16, 1803 in Paris , † May 29, 1884 in Rouen ) was a French agricultural chemist.

Girardin entered the pharmaceutical laboratory of the hospitals of Paris in 1821, in 1825 in the laboratory of Thénard and in 1828 received the professorship of applied chemistry in Rouen . Here he also set up a course in applied chemistry for workers and published these lectures as Leçons de chimie élémentaire appliquée aux arts industriels (1837; 6th edition 1880, 5 vols.). In 1838 he was appointed professor of agricultural chemistry at the École d'agriculture founded on his drive. In 1848 he began his lectures on manure in the department of Niederseine and had a great influence on the progress of culture in Normandy. In 1858 he followed a call to Lille and was then rector of the academy in Clermont .

In 1842 he became a corresponding member of the Académie des sciences .
