Company history

The company was founded in 1850 by Salomon Neymann. In 1870 she moved to Wasselonne . The company gained renown under Benoit Neymann. Until 1930, the production of unleavened bread was reserved for religious purposes. The company survived both world wars, despite an interruption in World War II. At that time the devices were stolen, but later recovered. In 1948 production was resumed thanks to René Neymann.

From the 1960s onwards, both the rusk industry and nutrition became more important, and so the sales of Ets René Neymann increased . During this decade, the company was modernized and production industrialized to meet increasing demand. In 1970 the company opened up its range of products to nutrition-conscious customers. Since 2000, Jean-Claude Neymann has been managing director in the fifth generation, diversifying the product range and driving the export business. Since 2005, almost two thirds of production has been exported.

The historical factory building currently in use in the center of Wasselonne is the former headquarters of Ostermann, which housed the Rosenfelder printing company between the World Wars and which was then acquired by the company in the 1960s.

The company exports a large part of its production to the European Union , particularly to Italy , Germany and the Netherlands . There are also exports to Switzerland , Japan and Russia . Furthermore, the company has expanded its range to include organic products and is currently listed in several company directories that take into account the commitment to organic production. Etablissements René Neymann accompanied several delegations abroad, notably in Japan in 2010. Neymann also took part in the Alsace stand at the SIAL agricultural fair in Shanghai in 2008.

It should be noted that the Alsatian company does not deliver to Israel . According to Neymann, the Israeli market is already divided up by companies there, making it difficult to penetrate there.

Products

The standard product of unleavened bread is the sanita and is offered in packs of 200 or 400 grams. Only two basic substances contribute to the recipe: flour and water.

The flour comes from France and Italy. An average of three tons are produced every day, 40,000 flat cakes an hour.
