Étienne-Gaspard Robert (born June 15, 1763 in Liège , † July 2, 1837 in Batignolles ), also known by his stage name Stephan Kaspar Robertson , was a Belgian magician and developer of the Phantasmagoria . His grave is in the Père Lachaise cemetery in Paris .

Life

Robert studied in Leuven and specialized in optics . A talented painter, he moved to France, but continued to attend lectures on natural science subjects. Through his work on these topics he succeeded in developing new forms of illusion, which are considered the forerunners of cinematography and which he introduced to his audience as a magician. He also appeared as a balloonist.
