Étienne Picart
Étienne Picart ( Le Romain ) (born October 21, 1632 in Paris , † November 12, 1721 in Amsterdam ) was a French engraver .
The son of the Parisian bookseller Bernard Picard was apprenticed to François de Poilly the Elder. Ä. His friend was the engraver Guillaume Vallet (1632–1704), with whom he spent the years 1655–61 in Rome. Here he acquired his nickname Le Romain and made engravings after Reni, Domenichino, Tintoretto and Francesco Albani. In 1658 he made a frontispiece to Maratti as a master's thesis . After their return they were admitted to the Académie Royale de Peinture et de Sculpture in 1664 .
Around 1711 he moved to Amsterdam to live with his son Bernard .
