Île de la Province ( English Province Island ) is an island in Lac Memphrémagog, which belongs to Canada , the Province of Québec , and the United States .
The 0.31 km² large island belongs to the USA ( Orleans County in the state of Vermont ) with only 0.028 km² at its southern tip , the majority belongs to the city of Magog . It was called Mem-Toag by the Indians . At the end of the 18th century, a pioneer named Martin Adams and his wife, who both lived on the mainland, grew flax and vegetables on it.
The island was formerly called Zabriskie and Howard Island . It is privately owned; a pheasant hunt is organized annually. The border between Canada and the USA is marked by a five meter wide cleared strip in the forest.
Remarkably, the outline of the island largely corresponds to that of the main island of Taiwan .
