List of shared islands

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The majority of all islands belong to the national territory of a single state or are each themselves a state. Islands with international borders are a rare exception that this list of shared islands provides an overview of.

cPassport Island was artificially piled up about in the middle of the King Fahd Causeway to handle border formalities.
dThe unnamed island is mostly in France. The rest is joint German-Luxembourg territory .

fThe status of the military base under international law is controversial. The USA invokes an open-ended lease with Cuba. Cuba has not recognized the lease since 1960 at the latest and regards the military base as illegal. The border of the military base has a different character than a US military base z. B. in Germany.
GAkrotiri and Dekelia are still British sovereign base areas after the independence of Cyprus and are counted by Great Britain to the British overseas territories . The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, proclaimed in 1983, is not recognized by the international community.
