Óðr

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Óðr is a god of lesser importance in Norse mythology .

According to Gylfaginning and Skáldskaparmál , he is Freyja's husband and with her they have daughters Hnoss and Gersimi . He is also mentioned by the skald Einarr Skulason (11th century), as well as in the Völuspá and the Hyndluljóð . That said, it's not an invention of Snorri Sturluson .

Some scientists have tried to equate Óðr with Óðinn (and Freyja with Frigg , wife of Óðinn), partly because of the similarity of the names. However, this equation is controversial.

Óðr leaves Freyja, who wept after him tears, which turned to gold when they fell on stone. She then goes out into the world to look for him.
